Why Property Taxes go up.
 

Do you want to know why your property taxes go up? This excerpt is from today's Citizen article. Howie Carr would appropriately call this a "hackarama". These are mostly political jobs, awarded to people who know someone or have worked on a political campaign. Here's the quote:

"A legislative panel has endorsed a personnel study that will give its own staff as much as 63 percent salary hikes, the first objective review in 20 years, two lawmakers said."

Instead of trying to figure out new sources of "revenue" (which in this case means forcibly removing money from citizens pockets) figure out how to stop the pig fest going on in the new Democrat majority NH government.

"Senate Republican Leader Ted Gatsas, of Manchester, said it was wrong to grant these increases without considering the 300 people who hold politically appointed jobs in state agencies. Larsen said at some point the pay of those workers would be taken up."

Put you hands on your wallets, they're about to be picked.

Welcome to Massachusetts -style government in NH........no surprise here. Folks did not really think that they were electing a reform party when they elected democrats last year....did they ?

From the article "The Legislative Fiscal Committee next month is expected to act on increases for the 40 who work for the Legislative Budget Assistant's office. The highest increase would go to the lowest-ranking lawyers who are assigned the task of drafting bills. Their salaries of $39,171 would immediately go up to $56,571. All legislative employees will get the benefit of pay raises granted to unionized state employees of 3.5 percent next January and 5.5 percent on Jan. 2, 2009. This will raise the lawyers' pay to $61,770, a 63.4 percent increase overall."

I'm all for paying fairly to get the best people working for our state, but a 5.5% pay increase? When do we get to vote the democrats out?

Last time I checked the population generally receives once a year a cost of living increase raise which is inbetween 3 to 4%. Must be nice to get 63% or so over 2 years at the cost of my pocket book which only increases 3 to 4% a year

I figure based on an increase from $39,171 to 61,770,that comes out to only a 57.7% increase.That sounds much more reasonable doesn't it?

Today's www.UnionLeader.com has a free link to a Wall Street Jounal editorial, normally a paid subscriber newspaper, written by Andrew Cline, editorial writer for the UL, titled 'Why Blue New Hampshire?'

The article suggests it is places like Alton, Gilford, Laconia, Meredith, Moultonboro, Tuftonboro, & Wolfeboro that are turning from Red to Blue while southern NH is becoming more Red.

So, stir that into your cup of tea!

It also suggests that 2010 could be a good time for Sen Gregg to think about retirement.

could also be the Concord area. also i know that exeter is very heavily Democrat. I think Moltonboro still votes primarily republican

If you look at the NH state site with the tallys of Rep/Dem registrations, you see the north is very Rep and the south Dem.

I don't know where the WSJ is getting its data from, unless its more liberal media slant.

These are probably not full time employee's.........they are political hacks that sit on an occasional advisory board ...or maybe a commitee to study some social issue.Why do you think they call them the tax and SPEND party.

Hey, I just saw the new Blue state in action yesterday at the Bedford and Hooksett tolls. They pulled out the change baskets and added toll takers, needed to collect that extra quarter :rolleye2: . The notes on the change baskets must have been paid off, so they decided to reward their hack friends with jobs, which of course will require even higher tolls in a few years.

I get a kick out of how these people move out of their blue state cesspools to places like New Hampshire. What's the first thing they do, change everything to the policies that ruined the place they came from.

Get used to it ITD........Vermont & Maine were overrun with flatlanders' & NH is well on the way to the same sad fate.

It is only going to get worse if Hilary is elected. Remember in the early 90's when she went on the rampage to reform healthcare? All she did is caused the medical community to spend big dollars on lobbiest to fight against socialistic medicine. This spending on lobbiest is still going on today and has caused doctor's fees and insurance rates to continue to rise at double digit rates.

It's more than property taxes, too. Just remember, the Democrats consider a family of 4 making $50K per year "rich" and able to pay more in taxes to pay for their political platform of being all things to all people.

My favorite one lately is the logic that the Dem's feel they need to "replace" the money they will loose by fixing the unintended over taxation caused by the AMT which hits more people each year. They feel they are obligated to tax some of us to make up for the imaginary loss. Maybe a minimum IQ requirement to run for national office. Could get awfully quite in DC.
