Clear Cool Day
Today was cool, but very clear today. You could almost see the treetops on Mt. Shaw.
On the way home I was traveling down Rt. 11 and stopped to take a picture of the view which is usually quite hazy. (click on picture for larger image) I took my pictures continued on my way. Much to my surprise, as I came near the Belknap Hotel, I spotted the Mount Washington heading toward the Broads. Since Mother's day is supposed to be the first 'Official" cruise of the season, I was taken aback. I whirled the car around and went back to the scenic outlook for this shot. For newcomers, Mount watching is a major pastime here. |
Island Girl -
It was probably the final "shake-down" cruise to make sure everything is in proper working order. |
Clouding up, though
After noon Saturday, the sun went in, the clouds moved in, and it seemed to threaten rain. Sunday looks -- and feels -- no differently.
Speaking of boat-watching...The fishermen (locals?) with 12-foot boats moved out, and a bunch of larger boats started in. Some techniques for weekend trollers with too much power? Drag two of those 5-gallon plastic drywall buckets behind, or tilt the engine way up! Don't complain about the cost of gasoline too much.... Something especially nice on the eyes just went by: Three fisherpersons silently trolling in a "Nor West" square-stern canoe and Johnson outboard. The "Nor West" looks like dark green canvas-covered real cedar strips and cedar ribs -- just like the old days. The Marine Patrol made its first appearance here. It's been so quiet since ice-out. Does their exhaust noise meet NH's noise restrictions? It sounds like a cement truck! (Well, it always did anyway). Two white (+ the usual vinyl graphics) off-shores cruised by Friday, a respectful 150+ feet apart. They cruised (at respectful speeds, even) over to where there was a small gathering of people, and departed after 15 minutes. No news there, but there was a six-foot strip of duct tape attached at a strange angle right below the water's edge on one of them. Hee hee. |
Mt. Washington Prom Night
I think the Mt. Washington was headed for Wolfeboro for the annual Kingswood Regional High School prom on the Mount. We spotted quite a few prom-dressed kids in Cate Park around 5:30pm.
