Snorkeling

I am looking for additional places to take the kids snorkeling this year. We have been to the Belknap and a barge on the west side of Paugus Bay. I heard of Beckys Garden as well but have not been there. Thanks.

I have heard that the areas around the Beaver Islands are good. Never tried it though. Perhaps this Summer...

We Enjoyed Parker Island

The northern side of Parker Island is great! Lots of very interesting rocks with amazing ripples, holes and nooks. Be sure to have a dive flag.

Try the train wreck in Meredith Bay. It is just below what used to be the Brickyard Mountain property inside a little cove with the railroad tracks on the embankment above. Not sure if it is marked on any charts. Seems a train with a load of paper from up North went off the tracks around the turn of the 19th - 20th century. Snorkeled there when I was a teen. Locomotive was recovered but a couple of box cars remain in about 20 - 25 feet. A bit deep for the snorkel but on a good clear day it's a neat dive. Don't forget the dive flag!

The rail cars are marked on the Bizer lake chart. They are located in Laconia less than a mile from the Weirs, headed north towards Merideth. The chart says they are in 47 ft of water.

Robert's Cove

The inlet to Robert's Cove is good, too, where the boats anchor a lot...just be careful of the boats flying in and out of there! Lots of fish, rocks, treasure! :)
