Eagles
 

This morning a bald eagle and a golden eagle competed for a dead fish left behind at a bob house near us. The golden eagle totally dominated the encounter, being larger and more aggressive than the bald eagle. Here are some photos:

Another thing I thought fascinating about your pictures were the large ice flow build up at the shoreline.

I remember last year the golden moved the bald eagles off the dead deer in Alton Bay as well. It must be tough being a bald eagle in Alton!

Fantastic pictures. Thank you for sharing them. Where were they taken? Any suggestions for the best times, locations and days of the week for such sightings?

The bob house in the photos is located near the mouth of Minge Cove in West Alton. The shots were taken around noon today.

We've seen bald and golden eagles around here a number of times before, so we believe they must live in this general area.

The shoreline visible in the photos is just north of Roberts Cove in Alton. Everything along that shoreline is caked with ice, much of which formed during the high NW winds and very cold temps. of two weeks ago when the waves were crashing over the rocks and freezing.

I haven't had a chance to resize the photos larger and post them to PhotoPost yet. However, the problem may be a browser setting. If you are using Internet Explorer 7, click on "Tools", then click on "Internet Options. Then click on the "Advanced" tab. Scroll down to "Multimedia", then scroll down to "Show Pictures". Make sure the box to the left of "Show Pictures" has a check mark.

Absolutely beautiful shots!!!!! Mother nature never fails to provide a spectacle in your front yard, and I am eternally envious!

Great Photos. There are severall other bird cams that are really cool. The www.palemale.com site in NYC for redtail hawks Pale Male and Lola. The photos taken by Lincoln are totally breathtaking and go back several years. Another site is www.kodak.com, where the livecam for Mariah and Kaver, the peregrine falcons in Rochester exists. Last year they had 6 eggs, although only 4 hatched and matured. No wonder they call me the Bird Dork! I was driving down Parade Road toward Laconia about a month ago and an adult Bald Eagle was just swooping overhead. I nearly had an accident in my haste to get to the side of the road and watch this truly elegant bird.
