guest from Georgia

Good morning,

Since I always get such wonderful ideas from people here, I thought it prudent to ask instead of racking my brain.

I have a wonderful woman from Georgia visiting for this weekend. I would like to show her all of the wonderful things that Winni has to offer.

NOW, I am not the organized type. I tend to do the same things over and over again. I really would like to give her a tour to put shame to all my other tours.

I do not want to bring her to Braun Bay and we are bringing her to dinner at the Cow Island restaurant on Saturday night. THAT is about all I have planned.

I am sure at some point we will go by Bob Baher and Mitt Romney's house for the ooooooo ride, then to Garwood's or Bailey's bubble.

ANY other good idea's for the wonderful weather and a southern bell? (she is a beautiful 50 something single lady!!! :D )

Governor's Island

Take a ride around Governor's island to see all mansions.

Woodsy 08-03-2006 08:56 AM

What no late night drunken boozefest in the Weirs? LOL!

My suggestions...

Fireworks by boat

Sally's gut

Barber's Pole

Woodsy

PS: CALL ME!

Mee-n-Mac 08-03-2006 09:40 AM

Now that's a suggestion !

ps - yes I know, it's your tagline/sig. The spacing made it look funny.

Back when gas was cheap, I'd show guests the smallest house on the lake (Becky's Garden) and the largest (Bahre Estate). It's a long ride, but's it right down the broads.

My guests seem to enjoy hitting all the narrow bits like the Hole in the Wall, Sally's Gut, the passages by Pistol, Dow, 9 Acre and Whortleberry Islands, the passage by Kenniston, the passage by Camp Island, etc. Everybody loves to go under bridges too.

A trip to Green's Basin and Lee's Mill would be cool. Make it a clockwise trip along the shore, hitting places like Whaleback Rock and the back side of Ganzey on the way back to break it up. Your guest may not even realize you are back tracking.

Going through these places and back "home" by a different route, make the lake seem even more endless to someone who's never been before. To me, going across the Broads is just a way to get to an "interesting" place. We love to look at the real "campy" places up close and slowly.

A night ride is awesome, especially if you can time it to see fireworks and the Mount all lit up. I still get goose bumps on rides like that.

Hope you have fun!

The Cow Island restaraunt is a classic Winni to do.I was lucky enough to have a forum member invite me and it has a pure old time Winni feel. She will love that experience!!Good choice LWB.When your not on the lake, take her up to the new Aquavista development.Fantastic veiw looking towards the Weirs and Paugus, Eagle/Governors Islands, and over to Merideth Bay.

How about a hike up Mount Major for a different perspective of the lake?

Where is Romney's house anyway? Is there a picture of it in the photo gallery?

That's Romney's place? I always thought that was the Walgreen's place. Huh.

Kamper 08-05-2006 08:13 AM

"was..."

Romney bought it and I guess he wants the money for other things now.

dah daht dah dah, dat dah dah, dah dah, dah dah, dah

Mitt's place

The house in the photo in the gallery and the one in the real estate add are completely different houses. Also, the actual house in the add doesn't appear to be anything special, it's just land and a boat house they are selling. Which one is correct?

ITD 08-05-2006 10:26 AM

I thought Mitt's house is on Clarks point, besides, Mitt wouldn't need to sell his summer house to finance a run at president.

nshore 08-05-2006 10:32 AM

Mitt's house is the one in the photo gallery, not the real estate listing.. here is a link to an ABC story about his place:

Mt. Major For Sure & The Castle in The Clouds

Mt Major is one of the must sees. Everyone comes back with great memories from the climb as well as some great shots of the lake. I have done the climb many times - even last summer and it is a great time.

The Castle in the Clouds is another great visit. Skip the controversary with the LRT it is a great visit.

By the way this is the current Walgreen property

The ex-Mrs. Walgreen owns this one and it is on the market for $12.8 mi.

How about a car ride through Franconia Notch State Park, a walk up the flume or a cruise down the Kang. Hwy. (notice how I couldn't spell Kangamangus?) to N. Conway?

Kamper 08-05-2006 06:18 PM

If that was a bum steer, I apologize. I was given that link by a friend from mass. when we were gossipping during a slow day at the office.

Anyway.. Enough thread-jacking.

secondcurve 08-07-2006 07:24 PM

LWB:

So what did you do and how did your guest like the area?

SAMIAM 08-08-2006 08:20 AM

If you and your friend are in good physical shape you should hike up the Rattlesnake trail on rt 113.
It's less than an hour to the top (easy walking) and the view of Squam.Winni and the mountains is SPECTACULAR.
My wife and I pack a snack, sit on the cliff and enjoy the sights.

Lakewinniboater 08-08-2006 09:18 PM

Thanks All!!

We had a fantastic weekend! Saturday had some issue's .... obviously, didnt go out on the boat because of chop... that is until we went to Mama Luci's, but it died down by then.

We brought her to Waldo Peppers, Naswa, Ellacoya grill, Mama Luci's, Garwood's Baily's Bubble and town docks.

Drove the lake around the lake numerous times and places (great ride through Hole in the Wall and north). Also, took her to a number of towns by car.

All in all.... good weekend.

THANK YOU for your thoughts and suggestions. I still have a list for my husband and I to do on our free days from all of the ideas.

Romney House

Where is the Romney "cottage" in Wolfeboro?

Thanks!
