How many bridges/roads connect islands to the mainland and what are the names of the islands. Thanks.

I believe there bridges connecting to four islands...Long,Governors, Black Cat, and the fourth one escapes me.

I believe there is a small bridge connecting Worcester Island near Springfield Pt.

One I can think of is:
 

Christmas Island in Paugus Bay.

There is the "Wishing Bridge" between between Birch and Steamboat. It was built in the 1930s and I heard somewhere that it's all still the original wood.

Funny, most people just know and think of the three majors and forget about the others, although with Christmas Isl., isn't that more of a causeway than an actual bridge? ;) I have always said, "there is nothing like island life... esp. when you have a bridge to it!" :D

Channel Cottages (just after you enter Paugus Bay) boasts of an island on their property connected to the main land by a foot bridge.

Probably the only island from which a drive in movie can be seen!:)

I must agree to this.....having the comfort of driving to my place on Long Island and not having to deal with the issues of having boat access only....definatly seems like two differant worlds to me......

Hehe - Really? So the definition of and island is a body of land surrounded by water correct? So, we're on Black Cat Isl. - a body of land surrounded by water, thus an island? :D ;) We have friends on Cow Isl. and they always say we not "really" on an Island because we have a bridge, but and island is an island. :D Granted - I agree a "real" island on the lake is different, and a much different style of lake living, one I happen to enjoy quite a bit when I can. :cool:

People who live on bridged islands are not islanders (sorry, but it's true).

BOATING AND WATER SAFETY ON NEW HAMPSHIRE PUBLIC WATERS
Section 270-D:1
270-D:1 Definitions. – In this chapter:
I. "Boat" means every description of watercraft other than seaplanes, capable of being used or used as a means of transportation on the water and which is primarily used for noncommercial purposes, or leased, rented, loaned or chartered to another for such use.
II. "Commercial vessel" means any vessel carrying passengers for hire as a common carrier of passengers or property.
III. "Commissioner" means the commissioner of the department of safety.
IV. "Director" means the director of the division of safety services, department of safety.
V. "Division" means the division of safety services, department of safety.
VI. "Headway speed" means 6 miles per hour or the slowest speed that a boat can be operated and maintain steerage way.
VII. “Island” is defined as a land mass totally surrounded by water and reachable only by boat.
VIII. "Motorboat" means any vessel being propelled by machinery, whether or not such machinery is the principal source of propulsion.
IX. "No wake area" means an area where a boat is to be operated only at headway speed.
X. "PFD" means a personal flotation device of a type approved by the United States Coast Guard.
XI. "Person" means person as defined in RSA 21:9.
XII. "Vessel" means any type of watercraft used or capable of being used as a means of transportation on water, except a seaplane.
XIII. "Wake" means any disturbance created on the surface of the water as a result of combined vessel motion and hull displacement.
XIV. "Water skiing" means a person being towed behind a moving motorboat on skis or on aquatic equipment designed for towing an aquaplane or any other device, including bare feet of a person, but excluding a person being towed in another boat or motorboat.

One mile island
 

One Mile Island in Center Harbor once had a bridge from the mainland to the island. The stone abutments are there on either side but the center span is missing.

So Bear Island is the largest island on Winni.

However I have walked and skied to the island and one of my neighbors arrives by helicopter. It wouldn't be hard to swim from the mainland either. Seems like they could have phrased that better.

You'all are looking at it figuratively, I am looking at it literally. As much as I am able to enjoy "true" island life from time-to-time, and I know it is taken very seriously by those of you that live on them... an island is an island, bridge or no bridge. :D ;)

So I guess that according to the state during the winter there are no islands?:D Either way some day I hope to move from "land" to an island, hopefully one without a bridge. So there you have it, another land locked island dreamer......
