Greens Basin Comments
I am fortunate enough to be in the market for a new home in the lakes region. I was looking at a home in the Greens Basin area. I was hoping that people to give me the good the bad the ugly about that part of the lake. I was told that the water has a "green tea" hue to it?, but I has hoping some of the more "experienced" folks on the forum could comment. thanks

we live there and love it. No big boats show up and the area is large enough that people do water ski and wake board. Don't know about the green tint , we have never seen it. Big drawback( not for us) is you are quite far from the open bay or broads so that may be a problem if you want to really let lose with a boat. There will also be a millfoil abatement this spring in the basin. Also the taxes in Moultonboro are far lower than say Meredith or Laconia. If you want any other info send me a private e mail good luck

We take our boat up that way now and then. It's a really nice part of the lake and an area I ssupect I'd be happy to live in. It's a long haul to anything by boat but that would be part of the charm, in my opinion. I would not venture up there at night without a chartplotter. There are a lot of rocks to avoid.

Beautiful spot
I think Green's Basin was originally its own lake before they raised the dam. Its beautiful! Nestled in the shadow of Red Hill, and it has lots of marshes, and some dramatic rocky shoreline. From Greens to Lees Mills is one of the most quiet parts of the lake, but there are drawbacks. It is way far away from the main part of the lake. With the cost of gas, you may not want to venture too far from home. Even Moutonboro Bay will take a while to get to. Also, there are lots of no-wake zones up there, which you may appreciate or find it frustrating. The water is darker than other parts of the lake, and there is lots of milfoil and weeds in spots, but you can still comfortably swim in it. Some of the areas are too weedy to get through, even with a trolling motor. Using a canoe or kayak would be great. Fishing is good, but unfortunately, you will catch a lot of lake-snakes (pickerel). Check the water in front of the property carefully, and look at your routes out to the lake.
