The Village Kitchen / ALWAYS GOOD!

Kudos to Seth and Anna.

The VK continues to be the go-to destination for quality food, sensational guest service and terrific value.

Saturday night my wife tried the "NEW" Waffles & Fried Chicken and raved about it. I had my usual.....their incredible Saturday special, Prime Rib; I have said it before, we have yet to find a better tasting and more large Prime Rib anywhere in the Lakes Region.

We're so pleased good, hard-working and ethical folks like Seth and Anna are doing so well. *Samiam must be very pleased to witness his former business and protégé not only maintaining his high standards but, dare I say, improving on the wonderful legacy of the VK!

Keep up the great work Seth & Anna!

The VK never missed a beat when it changed hands and continues to be high quality. Seth and Anna made for a very easy transition. I would still put the VK's farmer's breakfast up against any establishment in New England for breakfast!

I love the haddock on Fridays

Had the large turkey plate last night for the unpteenth time. Great as usual! Not "uninspired" whatsoever.

I tried the prime rib tonight for the second time in as many years. It was tough as leather with hardly any flavor. The mashed potatoes tasted like instant potatoes. The tomato soup was excellent. The “guest” f/k/a customer service was excellent.

You just summed up every experience I've had at the VK. I love most everything about it—customer service, hometown feel and local ownership, history—but just don't understand the actual food reviews I see here.

i go usually on a Friday to get the Haddock. To me it is very good and better than Bob House(also better sides and more choice) at 2/3 the price but only Friday. Also, i had the turkey dinner on a Thursday which was very good. I don't like prime rib way too salty so i haven't tried it

The "VK" or "country cookin" is a "local" staple and that's ok nothing wrong with that. I just think and have always felt that's where all the positive ravings come from (well to a point.) I'm 3-4 miles down the street when "up there" so for me their the most convenient for a quick meal, well other than Buckeys.

My .02: Foods ok to good depending on what you order, I never did like the cash only thing but tough !@#$ for me, if I insist on paying with a card I know to go somewhere else. The place is a bit weird and well "quirky" the way the floor sags and most tables have an annoying slant to them. Not totally crazy about the plastic(??) dishes you eat on, but again "whatever!"
Oh... was up doing a few chores this week so I grabbed a quick burger and fries there. I thought it was ok but again it was just a burger.

Hmmm one last question.. Was Red Hill Dari sold??

I had the Prime Rib there a few weeks ago, good for the price but not great.
I've always had a great Prime Rib at the Bob House. I had one last night at T-Bones that was also very good.
For me, VK will always be a breakfast and lunch joint and I'm not a big breakfast eater.
JMO, but I don't think I will go there for dinner again.

I second Biggs’s comment on T-Bones’ prime rib. I had it last night and it was great. They used some herbs and/or spices and it made all the difference. I have to get to the Bob House soon.

The Village Kitchen was sold to a long time employee.

Red Hill Dari was not part of that sale.

TiltonBB 10-22-2024 04:43 PM

I believe that Red Hill Dari was also sold to a long time employee but a different one than Seth who bought the Village Kitchen. Bob will let us know...........

Enough with these negative posts! The VK is what it is with its cash only policy.. If you don't know what the policy is by this time, you've been living in a cave. Their ATM in the entry way solves the issue anyways.

In the winter this place is a Godsend for snow machine riders. and in the summer a great breakfast and lunch place. Its not meant to be the Grill 23 of Boston or the Gramercy Tavern of NYC. its wholesome good food! Enjoy it or risk losing it.

I did not say that it was- it was sold to the woman who managed it for Bob and Sam for years

You’re right VB……we sold to Micki. She has worked for us since she was 14 years old. The most trustworthy, loyal, hardworking and honest person you could ask for. She has run the Dari for nearly 20 years and well deserved to be the owner

I love that. Quintessential American success story. A+. And good on you for picking the most worth successor. VK lives and thrives!
