how do wake boats fair in winni?
 

Hello, I'm researching getting a wake boat. I spend time in a local lake but sometimes go to winni for a day and I'm curious how a 20-22ft wake boat fairs in there? I'm shopping around for 2011-2017ish wake boats. Currently I have a crownline 208 and it rides beautifully for a 20 footer. I was just there July 4th and the water was rough but it still did great. Probably because of the deep and sharp hull. Just curious what everyone thinks, especially if anyone has experience switching from a bow rider to a wake boat. Thanks!

How do they “fare?” I think they are “generally” frowned upon by some shoreline owners. Like anything else, common sense rules the day. 🤔

Wake boats are designed be be lower in the water, so it's almost certain it will have a much tougher time in the chop than your Crownline

To the OP: Wake boats do not do well at all on Winnipesaukee. Definitely do not want to bring a wake boat here.

This sounds like mixed purposes. A boat that will ride well on Winni's big waters generally has different hull characteristics than a wake boat. Wake sports are almost impossible in the congested cross wakes on Winni's busy weekends. If you find a quiet cove to do your circles, you will stimulate (more) petitions to outlaw the activity in that cove. Wherever you go, turn off the music, please.

Find a quiet cove and trash the shoreline as well as docked vessels around the shore. The 100db speakers are just an added bonus

Lots of people both for and against them on Winnipesaukee. I run a Supra SE450 which rides great. Its a 24' boat though. We run ours in the broads off the east side of Bear Island, very far out so there are no complaints (and we don't crank any music). My waves dissipate well before shore.

yeah that sounds like a much nicer ride than any wake boat in my price range. Im sure she rides beautifully. Like someone else said, I've noticed wake boats do ride lower in the water. Have you gone across east of bear island in 20-22ft wake boat before? I'm also looking for ones with deeper traditional hulls not the old style flat bottoms. 2013+ tiges and moombas.

i have noticed they ride low. not sure if they're able to "get up no plane" like a traditional boat. I might just need to test drive one.

And i know they have a bad rep, I'll be responsible owner lol.

I wouldnt surf on winni, just leisure riding but not sure how leisurely they are in the broads

We've seen posts from other threads where boaters on other lakes find it simpler to rent a boat on Winnipesaukee for an occasional day than to trailer over, wait at the launch ramp on both lakes, etc.

Maybe take a look at something like a used Cobalt R5 or R7 surf. One of those would be a good compromise. They still have a deep V for handling the heavy chop on the lake, but also have surfing capability. They don't produce is as good of a wave as a purpose built wake surfing boat, but certainly good enough. The newer R6 & R8 do produce such wakes as they have the Malibu surf system, but they have less deep of a V as an R5/7, so you lose a bit of performance in the chop. They'd also be much more expensive than an R5/7.
