Inexpensive GPS

I’m looking for an inexpensive GPS option. I know the lake pretty well but want something for night navigation and to use in conjunction with a chart for the times I go someplace I’m less familiar with. I don’t need a fish finder, depth sounder, sonar, etc.

Any suggestions?

Good Morning,
Amazon has a wonderful selection of chartplotters from Garmin, Simrad, Humminbird, Lowrance, and Raymarine. Happy Shopping!

I was just looking at what is available for my phone in the Apple App Store. Since I don’t use it that often how do people feel about the Bizer Navigator app?

I like the Garmin map design better than Navionics. I also like having a dedicated piece with a bigger screen and appreciate the extra info: water temp, speed, anchor drift, etc.

I posted on the other GPS thread a great deal—not sure it's still available, but I think a few hundred bucks should get you something good with a bigger screen, etc.

Be careful buying anything from Amazon because many retailers there are not authorized re-sellers/distributors and thus while you may get a brand new (whatever) it will have no warranty because they are not true retailers for a given brand. Seeing brand logos etc. is just part of the scam some retailers on Amazon use.

I buy off Amazon for items that I won't worry about be unable to return if it fails. Sonar units? Not going to happen.

I just built a 2nd sonar platform for a specific use I have in mind for some searches I am conducting and bought a new Humminbird Helix 9 among other things-all done in person at Bass Pro Shops in Hookset. Great experience and I know they are authorized re-sellers.

Buy from Amazon of course if you are comfortable with it.

I’m with you. Something like this I want to see, feel, smell, etc. Probably not something I’ll buy on line. Good heads up on BPS in Hookset. Didn’t know they were there.

I got a GPS-enabled Android tablet off Amazon for around $100. Added the Navionics App… Works great for the cheap win!

If you want a slightly used, but functional unit, I have an older Garmin 430S that I used for one year. It has the Bizer chart in it for the lake.

I have it rigged on a 'cigarette' lighter plug and only kept it as a backup device as I removed it from the boat that I had for only one year.

You're free to look at it and make an offer. I can demonstrate it as it's easy to plug in to any car or boat that has a 12V socket (they used to call these cigarette lighters sockets).

I use my iPad with cellular option , navionics app works well ,
Double sided tape to mont to dash . Easy to take on and off
If you don’t have a cellular version ,bad elf sells products to allow it to use location satellites

My tablet doesn’t have cellular. I download the Navionics charts before heading out. This works great here and while in Exuma Bahamas too…

I decided that, since I only used my chart plotter 2 or 3 times a year, never for fishing, and mostly at night to confirm what 40 years on the lake have taught me, I would give the Bizer app a try on my iPhone. $25 for the year seemed a better way to go then $400 for a replacement chart plotter.
