The eggs in The Loon Preservation Committee's second loon cam nest have started to hatch. Currently, the first chick is almost out of the egg.

First Day Chick..."Boy, My Head Is Sure Heavy"...
1 Attachment(s)
Whichever parent was on the nest at 8:10 (near dusk), sure looked nervous. Her bill was open—which indicates thirst—and panting heavily, which suggests overheating. Certainly a well-groomed bird! ;)
One little-one was allowed out for a few minutes, and the cameraman was quick to focus on that short "romp". Legs unsteady, stretched a bit, a little bobble-head—then, it was back under the wing. :look: . |
The baby's were beating the hell out of each other the other day, And it wasn't play, I thought for sure 1 would end up dead but they say they're not fighting anymore.
