Repairing of Dock Cribbing
Hello,
I was wondering if you need a permit to repair the cribbing on a wooden dock? Thank You |
Yes...
You will need a permit to repair anything below the water.

Permit for Cribbing

Yes, about five years ago I replaced/installed posts around my dock and I had to go through the permit process. If you start early, keep notes and copies of everything you do things will work out. If you get a company to come in and replace the cribbing the company may do the permit process for you. They know all the ins and outs in the permit process too. Lakeboy142 |

Permits for Everyone!
Welcome to the People's Republic of New Hampshire!
Might as well call it Lake Massachusetts! Permits are absolutely required to construct, repair, or demolish a pier, dock, or float. After submitting your permit application to the local Conservation Commission, they forward it to the State environmental folks with their recommendation. If approved by the state, you then apply for a local building permit. If approved by the local building inspector, you are issued a permit. Or, you can do what many waterfront folks do (provided you are on good terms with your neighbors): just discreetly do the work ..... be quick, clean, considerate, and quiet about it. But, don't expect this method to work for something obvious; like re-roofing your boat-house. |
I did my dock several years ago. I did not have to get a permit if I was simple replacing/repairing the decking or substructure not touching the water. The work had to cost under the minmum cost for any permit. At the time you didn't need a permit for work costing less than $1000. That was in Alton but several years ago.

You do not need a permit from the Wetlands Bureau for the work conducted above the water as long as there is no change in the dimensions. You might need a building permit from your town though.
