I gather there are baby Robins in the nest, as crows don't have any interest in nesting on porches.
It's not unusual to see Crows carrying off songbird nestlings, but Robins are a large-enough songbird to put up a good fight (i.e.— in pairs). When feral/outdoor cats kill one songbird this time of year, the babies are doomed.
As for scaring off Crows, a pellet gun will work—and you don't have to hit the offending Crow. A "hit" on the branch they've perched on should be enough. I've even had success tossing a heavy stick that struck the tree! (Never saw them again). :)
You're up against a very intelligent bird. Crows scout neighborhoods, looking for nests to rob. My one birdhouse gets special attention. Crows manage to gather around just when the Chickadee nestlings are starting to fledge! :eek2:
Blue Jays—of the same family as Crows—are also daytime nest-robbers. At night, raccoons will tear apart a birdhouse to get a meal of whatever's in—or on—the nest. :(
