Kitchen cabinet painting
Looking for recommendations to have our kitchen cabinets painted.
Thanks! Sent from my iPad using Winnipesaukee Forum mobile app |
We did ours four years ago trying to stretch out a total replacement. IMO it's a temporary fix. High usage cabinets the paint wore around knobs and edges.

Paint Them!

I had older oak kitchen cabinets and Formica counter tops. Five years ago I got tired of looking at them because they just looked old. The layout was good and the cabinets were solid. Painting seemed to be a good solution that was a lot less expensive than replacement.
I used a good bonding primer, tinted to the paint color, and then painted the cabinets. There was no preparation such as sanding needed. I also changed the hardware and had granite installed. They look fine to me and it has held up well. Two years ago I took a cheap sponge brush and some of the remaining paint and in 5 minutes touched up a couple of chips. The bonding primer sticks so well that I painted the brass ceiling light too. |
Think about having them refaced instead. That’s what we did four years ago! The Kitchen Magician (David Lemelin) made us new cabinet doors and painted the cabinet boxes. In the uppers we put in lights and glass shelving. He’s THE BEST.

The cabinets look great, I'm thinking of doing something similar with our cabinets. Do you remember what color white that was? thanks |
Not Exactly

I don't remember the color name. (I'm old and entitled to memory lapses!):)
It is a little more cream colored that it looks in the pictures. If you look at the white window trim next to it you can see the difference. I bought more of the same paint for something else last year. (I liked the color too) Here is a picture of the can if that helps. I assume that the numbers would tell Lowe's how to duplicate the color. |
Great thanks

I had my cabinets painted in my house in Mass a couple years ago. they have heald up pretty well. A few chips here and there that I've yet to touch up. We jave no kids in the house anymore. Just the grand kids every now and then. I don't think they would hold up very well with toddlers running around. My guy used an oil based enamel.
