Broken Spoke Saloon

Heading up to the lake for the weekend and thinking about catching the PATS game at the Broken Spoke Saloon. Has anybody tried the menu or watched a game there?

Edit. I deleted the picture. It was too huge and breaking the page formatting.

Everyone has seen it by now, was a flyer announcing year round hours

Cool!
Anyone know if it's the same owners or new management?
Hafta put the snow tires on the Harley!

Anyone try the food recently?

Saw in the Weirs times that the lot to the right of broken spoke has been sold and a large storage facility is going to be built. That is if the town / zoning allows it...

I think you would be better off at Patrick''s or 405. Customer service is better at these places.

joey2665 12-17-2016 09:02 PM

Much rather go to T-Bones or Cactus Jack's I know I will get grief but I am not a fan of Patrick's Pub at all

CJ Averys by far the best place to watch game

Laconia Sun

The Laconia Sun article about the proposed storage facility incorrectly states that the Broken Spoke has not been open for years.

Boot Hill vs. Broken Spoke...

The article actually references the Boot Hill Saloon, not Broken Spoke. Boot Hill is a shuttered place across the street from Broken Spoken and behind Tamarack. Back in the late 80's / early 90's it was an Italian-ish restaurant....don't remember the name of it....but it was quite good as I recall.

MeredithMan 12-18-2016 02:49 PM

That was the name!

That's the one. Although, didn't they spell it "La Cippolina", I think? Anyway, used to love the Chicken Francese with pasta and red sauce. Yum!

You are right. I got that wrong.

Much rather go Broken Spoke over Patricks for a drink and to watch a game. Better bar, plus darts & pool table. Good live music on weekends.

For me, Patricks is a little dark and "cave-like". Patricks has better food, so it depends on what you are looking for.

Wasn't that place also the Broken Antler at some point?

I don't know about you but if I'm paying money for food it better be good. I'm not just going there to watch TV. I can do that at home.

Yes it was. Different building but same site. Other building burned down.

The food is just meh. Nothing to write home about. The servers are a tad lackadaisical. They don't really pay attention to new customers, just the faces they remember.

That's why Patrick's is a better place to go. Good food and good friendly service.

Woodsy 12-21-2016 09:33 AM

I like the Spoke.... no disrespect to Patrick's... but 2 completely different atmospheres! The Spoke is a biker oriented bar that serves decent food! Patrick's is an Irish themed restaurant with a good bar.

I go to both quite a bit.

I like the Spoke a lot! The family that is running it are very nice people and are always open to suggestions. They are an AWESOME addition to the Weirs!

Woodsy is so very right, two VERY different atmospheres. The Broken Spoke is a fun bar that has very good food served by a attentive, HARD working staff. The family that is running it puts 110% into everything they do to make your visit enjoyable. They have many live bands that preform every weekend, country, blues and classic rock and the crowd loves to dance. If you are looking for a quiet restaurant with one or two guys playing guitars then Patrick's may be your best bet. I am not a local, just a weekend resident and my wife and I feel welcome by the staff and patrons alike. If you enjoy great live music and a friendly, fun loving crowd I recommend you pay them a visit. *I don't know the owner or staff personally, just my observations*

Not to go off track but has anyone been to the new Lakeside Tavern in Meredith lately? I went twice this past summer and both times were very disappointing. I was just wondering if they got their act together yet. When ever I drive by I see a lot of empty seats.

BroadHopper 12-22-2016 09:24 AM

Watching any pro games.

There are a lot of great places to watch the game in the Lakes region area.
I prefer Avery's in Lakeport mainly because it is not so crowded.

Another great place to watch the game is Ellacoya Barn and Grill. I love the atmosphere.

Never tried Buckley's during a game, but I was told it is a great place to watch.

I haven't been there in eons, but back in the days The Mug was a great place to watch the game.

So many places to go in the area!

LakeWinniMom 12-28-2016 09:22 AM

We had dinner at the Broken Spoke last night. We went on the early side, around 5:30 and brought the kids, 13 & 9. There were a few patrons at the bar but we were the only ones having dinner and sat in one of the booths. The restaurant has a fun atmosphere, for us and the kids. The kids weren't bored and didn't feel they needed their devices to keep them occupied, which is always a plus. Our server was very nice and attentive.

The food was also good. We had a few apps: skid lids (potato skins), flat tires (fried pickles) and nachos, which were all tasty. It was $2 taco night, so we also tried those. They too were good.

We all left happy and said we would come back. I want to see them succeed, the owners seem very nice and hard-working. The father even ran out to get another gallon of milk since they were running low and our kids had ordered milk and they wanted to make sure they had enough. I thought that was very nice. *There were also many TV's to watch the big game, which the OP was asking about. I wouldn't hesitate to go there and have a couple drinks, apps and watch the game.

If you haven't tried them out, give them a shot.

It's a good location but the restaurant business is all about the food, service, and long hours of hard work. If those things aren't in the mix then it goes down hill quickly. It's good to see it open again and hopefully it succeeds. It's not an easy business esp. in a seasonal setting.

thinkxingu 12-28-2016 05:54 PM

Literally every time I've driven by this place in the past I've been disappointed to see it closed (even more so when I'd heard it was only open Bike Week). Would really like to see it succeed.

It's really not a "restaurant" it's a saloon, so cold beer, good chicken wings and burgers and lots of big screen TV's and decent waitresses is all one should expect.

I wouldn't go there looking for chateaubriand and creme brûlée!

I don't care what you want to call it. If they don't serve good food it probably won't last. Beer and booze pretty much taste the same everywhere.

I prefer Patrick's Pub, cold beer, great drinks, great atmosphere, friendly people, and good food.

Woody38 03-06-2017 02:01 PM

We have not yet tried Gringo's but will this year. We have been very happy with El Jimador both in Belmont and Laconia.
Patrick's is just ok. Very noisy, food could be better but ok.
T-Bones is one on top of our list. Consistent, friendly staff and the rewards are good.

I am a retired workaholic and continuing aquaholic.

Returning soon from beautiful downtown Burbank, California.

Taz 03-08-2017 08:12 PM

Gringo

Gringo food is bad in my opinion. El Jimador (Belmont) is far superior. Have not tried Weirs location yet. Best I ever had was La Carreta further south (Manchester) but El Jimador is comparable.

Mr. V 03-08-2017 08:30 PM

We have a lot of Mexicans out west, and a lot of Mexican restaurants.

The meal I had at El Jimador compared favorably with what I usually see at the local Mexican restaurants.

Patrick's is noisy but that's the kind of place it is. If your looking for quite then that's not the place to go but I've always had a good meal there and it's a friendly atmosphere. It's your typical Irish sports pub.

You may want to try Hermanos Cochina in Concord. Very good food and 'ritas.

Don't forget Tortilla Flats in Merrimac, the best 'ritas in the state!

Taz 03-09-2017 08:51 AM

Hermanos

Been to Hermanos but Concord not convenient and in my opinion El Jimador is better so why travel further to Concord? El Jimador is just down the street. Still for me La Carreta is the best with El Jimador right there with La Carreta.

Water Camper 03-09-2017 09:44 AM

El Rodeo

Have been a Hermanos fan for many years. Recently tried El Rodeo in Concord, at the bottom of Loudon Road. It is my new favorite.
When I was working in Manchester, La Caretta was my favorite.

Hope this helps,
Bill

Tried El Mariachi on Route 25 in Moultonborough last summer. Food is excellent and so is the service. We'll be back.

Agreed- however, they are closed through April something for the winter. I will read the sign this afternoon and edit the "something"!
