WOLFEBORO — One woman was injured after the personal watercraft she was operating was struck by another personal watercraft on Lake Winnipesaukee Monday afternoon, according to state police.

At 12:14 p.m. in Winter Harbor in the vicinity of the Libby Museum, a 2015 SeaDoo was operated by Emma Cotton, 23, of Needham, Mass., with a passenger on board. Emma Cotton was stopped on the lake when another 2015 SeaDoo operated by Jacob Cotton, 25, of Needham, Mass., with two passengers onboard, struck the stopped watercraft, according to New Hampshire State Police – Marine Patrol.



Jacob Cotton attempted to pull alongside the other SeaDoo when he lost control of his steering, striking the other SeaDoo causing a leg injury to Emma Cotton, police said.

“It is estimated that Jacob Cotton was traveling up to 15 mph when he impacted the other craft,” police said.

Emma Cotton was transported by Stewart’s Ambulance to Huggin’s Hospital in Wolfeboro. All other parties refused medical treatment.

The crash remains under investigation. Wolfeboro Police and Fire departments assisted at the scene.

Sounds to me like Jacob was being a bit of a "hotshot" and trying to make a cool move and he miscalculated...but it's a good thing there was no serious, injury, like life threatening. 15mph is pretty fast for close proximity!

The OP asked about an accident on Saturday though. The article is talking about one on Monday. Not sure this is the one he is asking about.

I read the above article, and wondered if it was forever-lost to search engines for the lack of the jet ski word. Sure enough, entering jet ski found a second article. Did the jet-ski have one or two passengers?

Now that the accident has been cleared up regarding the number of passengers with this new-news, this thread has all the news. ;)

Something was mentioned about a "reproduction Laker" flipping over in Wolfeboro Bay during a test—being recovered—and towed.

I'm not able to find that story again, so maybe it'll appear in The Granite State News—out today.

Well Hillcountry, you weren't there, so before you go accusing people of being a "hotshot" maybe just consider this was an accident. I am familiar with the incident in question and I can honestly say there was no "show boating" or anything like that. The operator simply lost control while trying to pull alongside his sister's PWC. He thought the machine was in reverse, and when he gave it some gas the lurched forward instead.

The 15MPH was only an estimate.

So next time you want to throw around accusations, make sure you know the whole story.

I hope this won't be considered too far off subject, but I heard that there was some kind of incident by Rattlesnake last night. Did anybody hear more?

Simply an observation based on what I see and have witnessed many times with "youth" or "others" and toys of any description...such as jet skis, motorcycles, dirt bikes, 4 wheelers, snowmobiles etc. Being "extreme" is the thrill nowadays.
Borderline abuse of machinery is the norm with many...and from there it goes up the line to larger non-toy vehicles as well. Am I mistaken in that thinking?
My "accusation" has no bearing in a court of law with regards to your case...so don't get your panties in a bunch over it. :laugh:

It was simply inappropriate to make unfounded allegations based upon your personal feelings about an accident that you know nothing about. If the ages of the victims were 65 and 68 would your accusations have been the same?

Maybe a small percentage of riders of jet skis and other recreational vehicles do like to be extreme for a thrill. However, that does not mean that someone with no information should state that the operator was trying to be a "hotshot" without any knowledge of what really happened. Accusations without facts are just idle speculation.

It reminds me of someone who did not have all of the facts saying: "The Cambridge Police acted stupidly".

Sometimes it is better to get your facts straight before jumping to conclusions.

I understand what you're getting at but is this not an Internet forum and not a court of law?
If people draw conclusions from an outsider's personal observation and take offense, then so be it...doesn't bother or change my personal thoughts or feelings on a subject. I would comment any way I see fit on future posts as well...your defense of someone else's comment is your right to freedom of speech as well. Again, my comment has no bearing on any outcome of any trial or action on the original post.
It's just a comment and nothing else...I'm not interested in finding facts as I have no vested interest in any of it. My last comment on this.
