Union Diner in Lakeport

I had the best Scallops yesterday at the Union Diner in Lakeport. They were large sea scallops that were cooked to perfection with a light batter and sweet taste. I also sampled the pan-seared Scallops which were equally delicious. After growing up near the ocean and having access to fresh seafood, the Union Diner’s scallops were some of the best that I’ve tasted. I had a chance to chat with the owner and one of the waitresses and learned that all of their seafood is fresh and cooked to order. They also offer an “All You Can Eat Fish Fry” with fresh Haddock every Friday for $12.99 - I’ll have to go back next week!

You can check out their menu at www.theuniondiner.com

Great place to eat. Went there years ago and enjoyed it completly. Can not do it now as there is no ramp (not handicap accessable). Menu looks good
and the Friday night deals seem tempting.

When I was there 2 weeks ago there was a ramp...:)

Union Diner in Lakeport

Dear Railroad Joe,

The Union Diner does have a ramp leading into the dining room (located to the right of the front door) so it is handicap accessible. Hopefully, you will get an opportunity to visit and enjoy their food!

Union diner and great breakfasts

My favorite at the diner is their wonderful tasting breakfasts. I think I have had about 25% of them and will continue tasting different ones each time I go by.:liplick:

Three Cheers for Union Diner!

Have gone there for breakfast with friends for several years and we are never disappointed. The food is excellent and portions are sometimes more than one can eat. They are very accommodating if you ask for half of the usual order or wish to take the remainder home. Friendly atmosphere and a nice place to get together for an old-time diner experience.

Great Breakfasts

Several neighbors and I have breakfast at the Union Diner most Saturday mornings and we have never been disappointed. The food is excellent, the prices are reasonable, and the wait staff is excellent.

Back When...

It was Paugus Diner, it was always AWESOME too!! I'm extremely happy to hear that the quality food and service is staying with that tradition!!

Diner History 101

A bit of history about the Union Diner. The diner was moved there by Paul Christy around 1964-65. He owned and operated it as Paul's Diner until 1970, when he passed ownership over to his son. It originally was positioned at a different angle, much closer to the road. It was moved back and incorporated into the present mini mall when the mall was erected and became Paugus Diner somewhere along the way.

Spider Osgood, a popular short order cook at the old Shore Diner, was employed there for a while after he left his employment at the Shore Diner. There is video footage of Spider in action at the Paugus Diner, a copy of which was featured at the Laconia Historical Society's exhibit about local diners a few years ago. It has been known as the Union Diner for several years now - an oasis for the hungry traveler along busy Union Avenue.

Martha wears a floral dress and eyeglasses. Spider wears a plaid hunting-style jacket and has a small mustache. On the counter are napkin holders, sugar dispensers, and salt and pepper shakers. The oval window of the diner is seen on the end and the curviture of the barrel-shaped roof. Behind them is the grill, stacks of dishes, two coffee urns, and white ceramic coffee cups. The chrome fan-shaped backsplash is in view. A framed sign hangs to the left (illegible aside from "35"). A sandwich board hangs beside it reading "Sandwiches: sliced ham-25, fried egg-24, ham & cheese-35, chicken salad-45, ___-25, hamburger-25, ___-25, eastern-30,western-30, tomato & lettuce-25, tunafish salad-45, american cheese-15, ____-25, bacon, lettuce & tomato-40, liver__-25, salami-35".
