RC boat in weirs channel

Going thru the Channel just south of the naswa, there's a little electric blue boat running around zipping thru traffic...kind of annoying, but whatever...thill the little stinker rams me broadside at full speed....thanks your 100 dollar toy just scratched my 20k one.....if you see it today, do me a favor and introduce it to the sandy bottom....

Rc boats

They are everywhere! I remember seeing them in front of Thurston's, in front of the Endicott Rock area, on the Governor's Island no wake zone etc.

I don't think there is a law against thier use but they are annoying and I can see a huge law suit as a result of them.

Bring this forth to the Marine Patrol and the Local Police Department.

While their might not be a law against it.... they Can stop and talk to people about the safety concerns.... Certainly with everything else going on in that Channel having to stop and think about what JR is doing with his RC boat should be on the list....

There are plenty of safe places to be using toys like that...

Marine patrol

Dont answer their phone on weekends, and if I could have spotted who had the controller in their hand I would have spoken to them myself....

Next time, try taking it out of commission with an oar! That's what I'm planning on doing to the little "buggers"!

A boat hook might work better, lift it up and bring it on board. I think then you would have no problem identifying the owner...

This is an interesting legal area. Obviously if this toy damages your boat, you can take action. But can you damage or seize this toy because it annoys you?

Seems like the MP will come put a stop to this eventually but what legal grounds can they use? My guess is some kind of twist on obstructing navigation.

I hope someone doesn't get into a fight over this.

Sounds like a petty and minor distraction to me. Your Grumpy Old Men is showing.:rolleye2:

The R/C boats have always been in the channel for as long as I can remember.
The 13 year olds using them seem to have decent control skills.
Beats sitting inside playing video games.
Maybe these are Marine Patrol Drones in training.:D

That is why you talk to them during the week.... and let them know about the incident....

Your not looking for an immediate life in danger type of response, you are looking for awareness in a case like this..... If the Marine Patrol is aware of the situation, they can send a patrol or 4 more through the channel on a weekend, and see if they can catch up with the kids and talk with them...

Big fishing net, grab 'em while they are going by, "turn them loose" on the other side of the lake

While I agree R/C boats have been used around the channel, forever.... I don't agree that the pilots have taken them out into the traffic lanes.... at least not when I have been around.... And that is the problem.... they should not be going out into the traffic lanes.
