Got a pretty cool pic tonight

After I thought the storm was over I was outside just checking things out and I saw a rainbow. So I took out my iPhone to get a shot of it. As I clicked I saw a flash lightening. I figured there was no way I actually caught that on an iPhone by complete chance. I immediately checked the photo realized that I caught two lighting bolts.Thinking I should play Power Ball tomorrow.

Yes you did

Great picture. Hard to tell I'm sure but where do you think the larger strike hit, waster, land, island maybe?

HomeWood 06-03-2013 03:20 AM

That's amazing! What a great shot. I'd most certainly go get a lottery ticket.

We saw the rainbow from Welch but a little later after the nearby lightning was over. The bright strike in the photo appears to be in the direction of Welch but was probably further south, maybe Mt Major. We did hear one not far away.

Unbelieveable photo! Nice cacth!

I went down to the lake to snap spme picture, caught the rainbow, but no Lightning. Saw plenty of it, but never caught it on the camera.

Did catch this beautiful boat heading to shore at a good clip.

wow, GATTO, you were lucky. Lucky you were not standing on the other side of the lake at that moment.....:D

Great picture. Yeah you can stand there all day Trying to get a picture of a lightning bolt and not get one. But then out of the blue (grey?) you can get one quite by accident. Nice!

Great pictures, both of them.

Awesome picture. We were down on the dock doing the same thing, taking a picture of the rainbow and the conversation came up,l "would'nt it be cool to get a picture of a lightning strike too". Hoping that strike you took a picture of didn't hit a lost runaway raft

Jeanzb1 06-03-2013 08:18 AM

That is an incredible photo! You should submit it to a photo contest(s) and maybe even National Geographic!!!

I marked a line on Google Earth from where I took the photo and it went right through Welch Island. I was looking at the iPhone when I took it and I never really saw the strikes so I have no idea of distance.

Considering the chances of getting a lightning bolt and a rainbow in a picture, you've got a winner there with TWO lightning bolts and a rainbow in one picture!

No... you got an AWESOME pic!!

Gatto Nero 06-11-2013 05:57 PM

Unfortunately, you can't see it in the uploaded version of photo but on my high res screen I can see another faint bolt that goes from that big 1/2 circle half way down the left bolt then up to the top and across horizontally well past the right bolt.

Took these pictures myself...

I thought the driver looked like Mark Mason. He showed me all around his Boat House in Smith's Cove many years ago.

You are Correct. First: That is a Significant boat on the lake. Second: I also believe that is Mark Mason at the wheel. He is well connected with that boat. :) NB

EDIT: Here is Mark Masons Website:
