Gonna have to duplicate this great penny shot next bike week... Wonder how the new round-about is going to improve things at this location, hmm.

Weirs the Beach?!?!?
 

Seriously though, where's the beach. Look at how Endicott Rock is basically out in the middle of the water (if I'm looking at it correctly).

It suggests the beach was actually filled in at some later date. I didn't realize that. Getting to Endicott Rock now is just walking down a path and a parking lot borders the path (I believe).

Interesting stuff.

Could the postcard be an "artist's concept" rather than a photograph? Not only does Endicott rock seem to be misplaced, but what is the island off to the right? Is the image reversed?

Maybe it's the other side of Meredith Bay or Spindle Point and not an island?

They're all photos. In the olden days there was no color cameras. To add color each black and white photograph was hand painted with a watercolor paint. Wallace Nutting from Massachusetts was one of the premiere practitioners in the early 1900's. Wallace Nutting's colorists painted the photographs which he took.

I collected up a number of the same type of colorized photos done by Charles Sawyer Photos of Concord NH. He was active at the same time that Nutting.

I have about 10 of the Sawyer prints, they are remarkable. he did only a few that featured Winnipesaukee, and I've never been able to find a Winni specific print on E-Bay
