Just relaxing on the rope railing in Wolfeboro today...I think it was eyeing a tasty bug or something.......:D

I believe it is a tree swallow. We often have them nest in a bird box near the edge of the woods.

Bird on a rope

Great picture.

That rope looks like the rope defining the eating area outside the Bayside Grille in Wolfeboro along the river, a favorite hangout for hungry birds. I had lunch there today with one of my daughters and three grandchildren. One of the grandchildren, 11 months old, I'm sure swept enough food onto the ground to feed a flock. I expect not only a Thank You note from the bird community, but an invitation to return (maybe even a gift certificate).

Does anyone have an idea as to what this bird is??

Jonas Pilot 07-04-2011 06:35 PM

It looks like a quail.

Chukar . . .

Google "Chukar" and you will find pictures and information. I've never seen one before. I actually had to look this one up!

Lakesrider 07-04-2011 07:17 PM

I was going to say a partridge or quail, but I guess it is a Chukar after looking it up as well. Haven't seen one of those around here before either.:D

Chukar . . .

This is very interesting. According to a quick google search, this bird is not supposed to be anywhere near New England. Is this a New Hampshire photo?

You just can't tell by the license plate. It isn't clear enough....:(

I took this pic of this bird in Holliston, Ma. Really wasn"t very afraid of me. I had never seen this type of bird before. Thanks for the replies.

It is a Chukar. People raise them that is why they are not afraid. Someone probably owns it and it got loose. Happens with my neighbors down on the NH border.
