Sally's Gut
A question for those who travel Sally's Gut.
What is the depth of the channel? Would a boat that needs 4-5 ft. clearence pass through with no problems? Thanks for any info! CEP |
Its boating weather!!
I have a 27' fourwinns and have no problem navigating through Sally's gut. And I have seen some bigger boats go through. It seems to be 6-10 feet deep all the way through!!

good question!
'Ya know with all the years going through the "gut" (Look up "WINNIPESAUKEE WHOPPERS" to have fun finding out about the name) I havenever sounded it.
The work boat goes in on Friday and I think that, while we are at full Lake I'll just make a run through the gut and give some soundings to the crew at the forum. Misty Blue. |
I have a 270 Searay SLX. This is a fairly heavy and big bow-rider. I go through there often, even late in the summer, with no real problem.
You need to look out in front of you, as far as you can given the turns, and if someone else is coming at you, you need a plan or you need to communicate with the other boater, especially if it is late in the summer when the lake level is lower. Fun place to go! R2B |
I have a 34 foot Searay and have gone through it with no problem. There is a property owner that has a 34 foot FourWinds in the channel as well. Stay in the center and you will have no problem.

I've been through several time on my 38' sailboat... It draws 5.5' and we've bumped the bottom a time or two in low water, but with a spotter on the bow it's a piece of cake. It's a fun ride and I get a few comments from the peanut gallery, however, I'm sure we entertained them with our navigation skills.

The depth should be OK. That one turn in the middle might be tough on a newer boater with a bigger boat.
