Another foot of snow down here in northern RI this morning. What's going on up there?

Just over an inch of the nice fluffy stuff.

Edit: above amt was from looking out window at snow cover. Just measured several areas and we got a solid 3 inches, and not so fluffy. If I had all 8 grandchildren here, and they each made a big snowman, my driveway would be cleaned off in no time! :)

About 2.5" in Meredith. Last year the DC area got hammered, this year it's been RI/CT/MA. Next year us?

We have about 4" over here...and now the sun shining bright.

Here in Central Joisey I had about a foot this morning. Starting to run out of places to put the snow...

I blew 3-4 inches off the driveway yesterday and nearly another foot this morning...forecast snow showers for the next several days...

Snow began last night at about 7 pm, at Black Cat Island.

0.8 inch fell by midnight, and visibility at that time was about 1/2 mile in snow. Just after midnight the visibility dropped to barely 1/4 mile in heavy snow, and we got a storm total of 3.6 inches, ending about 6 am.

It was a very fluffy snow, melting down to just 0.08 in. of liquid (what it would have been, if it were rain.)


This goes back to an earlier discussion about forecast accuracy in summer vs. winter, when human psychology plays a role.

0.08" of rain spread out over 11 hours in the summertime is a drizzle/occasional light rain that some people don't even notice.

But last night, 0.08" of water converted into 3.6 inches of snow, which brought the town's plows and sanders out. Most definitely noticeable.

CLA, you have sparked a question with your post.

What is the proper volume of snow to take for an unofficial (or official) water content measurement. I am certain that it is not a full snow scoop into a kettle and measure with a ruler.
