Some possible new rules for the 2011 fishing season. Open invitation to express your views on any of these rules is open until June 28, 2010. A meeting is scheduled for June 16, 2010 at 6:30pm at F&G headquarters.
http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/News...ng_051710.html List of all proposed rule changes. http://www.wildnh.com/Legislative/Notices_summary.htm Also, free fishing day is June 5, so if you ever wanted to get someone out fishing that has never tried it, but do not want to spend the money on a license (FLL) this is your day to get out on the water. http://www.wildlife.state.nh.us/News...hing_day_.html |
New legislation being considered
If I understand what I have read, it doesn't seem to be too bad. I'm concerned about the Salmon and trout populations in Winni. but I think most of this legislation is about black bass? Lm and sm don't seem to be part of this?
|
Black bass is a general name for largemouth and smallmouth bass.

Careful what you call it!

Rule Changes
Is a Rainbow Trout the same as a Lake Trout as far as the rules are concerned?
|
Excellent question. They, (Rainbow trout) are grouped together with Brook trout, Brown trout, Golden trout, Loch Leven trout and all of their hybrids. They are considered different than and with different rules than Lake trout.

Trout
Thank you for your help with these questions. I have a couple more if you don't mind? Is it legal to have a Salmon, a Laker, and a Rainbow in possesion? Also, is it legal to have a live Salmon (or any other fish) in your live bait well ?
|
"Is it legal to have a live Salmon (or any other fish) in your live bait well"?
Once you have a fish in your possession and you don't release it immediately it is part of your "bag". That is unless it is a bass and you are participating in a registered tournament being conducted at the permitted time of the year. "Is it legal to have a Salmon, a Laker, and a Rainbow in possession"? I think yes but I'm not 100% sure. Once you have caught and kept one salmon or laker you are only permitted to keep one more salmon or one more lake trout. For other trout the limit is 5 fish or 5 pounds- which ever limit is reached first. |
Carefull...

It's not 5 lbs or 5 fish. One salmon and one trout or two salmon or two trout. The trout have to be 15 inches, whether they are bows, brookies or browns in Winni and any other lake that is designated a lake trout and/or salmon lake. Lakers have to be 18 inches. Hope this helps. Salmon are 15 inches as well.

I stand corrected. Hilltopper and JoeG got it right.

Trout vs Trout
It is hard to believe that Lakers and "bows" are in the same family. The bigger they get the less they look like relatives. I suppose that could be said for most families.
Thanks again for the information, Happy fishing! |
