Marine GSP

Looking for feedback on Garmin Marine GPS models.

I dont need any fishfinder functions, just looking for a quality GPS to use on Winnipesaukee.

I was planning to use the Bizer data as I like their charts, unless others can recommend better.

Thanks for you advice in advance! :D

Standard Horizon Cp180I

I just bought my second Cp180I with a Bizer Winni C-Max chip. I love it. I don't use alot of the features but now that I have used it I am not sure I would be on the lake w/out it.

Retails for $500 GPS and $175 Chip at a Marina. If you call Jeppeson Marine in Mashpee Mass (# is on Bizers website) you can get both shipped for $550 ish.

Good luck, I am sure there will be many more ideas posted here soon and they are all good.

I just installed the Garmin 4208

It has every function you want. Full network ready.

I will be out and about this weekend. Let me know if you want to hook up to check it out. I only am using it currently as a GPS and speedo. Plan on hooking up the dash speedo and a depth finder to it. It can do full network, sonar, fish finder, photos of bays, blue chip hook up, everything.. Amazing..

My vote is for the Garmin Nuvi 500! $299 and for $10 bucks you get the Winni map! Waterproof and portable!

I love it!

Woodsy

PS: I also have a older Standard Horizon CP160 that works just fine with the C-Map chip of Winni.

Nuvi 550

I use the Garmin Nuvi 550 with the Garmin Winni map. It works well and does not cost a lot of $$$.

The only issue I have with it is that it does show tracks on the screen but these can not be saved to your home computer and then reloaded at a later date.

Once the memory fills up it deletes the oldest track.

I use the Nuvi 500, which is essentially the same unit as the 550 with the exception on some of the maps included, I think. It by no means would have the same functionality as a marine unit but it works fine for my purposes. I do know you can save a route on the unit and call it up at anytime. I don't know of any reason why you couldn't then upload that to your PC using MapSource, but I've never tried it so couldn't say for sure. For that matter I can't say I can think of a reason why I would.

Standard Horizon

Anyone using the Standard Horizon CP300 or CP500? I am considering one of them for my boat. Also, any experience with internal antenna vs external? Is there a noticeable difference between the two?

Many Thanks for the feedback and the very generous offer, I only wish I was going to be up there this weekend.

Have a spectacular time this weekend and I will check in with you when I’m ready to splash the little Carlson (next couple of weeks)

I just installed the Garmin 536 with the Bizer Chart software this past weekend and I love it. This unit also has network capability but I too am just using the GPS portion of it now.

Prior to this I had been using a Garmin Nuvi with the Garmin software chart of the Lake. I find the Bizer software to be much better.

OCDACTIVE: have you added any of the network capabilities yet and if so what components did you use?

Can you save the track(s) to an SD card in the unit?

With the Garmin 536 you can save tracks and waypoints to the SD card then transfer them to your computer via Mapsource. I have also been successful in uploading previous tracks captured with a different GPS onto the SD card then onto the Garmin 536

This is not possible with the NUVI 500

One of my best investments has been a $10 Navionics app for the iPhone. It should be available for others as well. I see it is available for iPad and Andriod as well.

http://www.navionics.com/NavionicsMobile.asp

I have a Garmin 440S with the 3D chip, but the screen and view of the Navionics app is so much better, I find myself using it more and more. Much better visual than the Garmin, more like seeing your boat on a paper chart.
