What do you drive to the lake?
 

Today, I finally bought a car I have wanted for over 20 years and plunked down the cash for a Mustang GT! Has a sweet sounding exhaust which is still from the original mufflers, that's how well kept the car it. I don't have any pictures, have to get them next time over at where it's being kept in NH.

I am stoked as this will be our ride to the boat during the summer. I didn't sleep at all last night I was so excited in anticipation. Won't get to drive it for a while though :(

Probably not the most practical thing I've ever bought (boat isn't much better). I ain't ever selling it.:coolsm::D

Anyone else have a toy car/vehicle that is their summer set of wheels?

1988 Red Mustang 5.0, with turbo, and other "enhancements"... its my summer car :)

Mine's a 1989 that's 100% stock. I plan to keep it that way. I love the look of the Foxbody Mustangs.

2000 Corvette whenever I can.
2005 GMC Sierra Pro Sport when I can't.

'07 mustang GT with a few mods. Sleeping for the winter right now.

2001 Jeep Cherokee
 

Bound to be a classic. The last of the real Jeep CY body. They close to original jeep factory after the last Cherokee produced.

It is the limited model with all the bells and whistle offered from the factory. Only 66K on the clock.

My 'heavy hauler' is a 1989 Dodge Dakota SLT V8, one ton, with Towing package.

As for Mushwang, 'Secretary Special', 'Screaming chicken' beater, 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T 440 wedge, Pistol Grip should do the trick. :rolleye2:

I know it's not a Vega but the front end always looked similar to me.

the last of the real Jeeps. A 1979 CJ5. I bought it new in March of '79. I just turned 36,000 mi when I tucked it away in Oct.

Dang, that is one clean Jeep.

We had a 1978 Porche 914S for a bit that Argie was fixing up but sold it a couple of summers ago for a song... sweet little car.

I had a 1968 Mercury Cougar for a while...would love another...

And if I ever win Megabucks, I want Dodge Viper... that would be my dream car... :rolleye2:

For now... it's a gawd-awful minivan. :eek:

a 2005 Trailblazer or a 2010 Corolla. Corolla is great on gas, but then again, it is over a mile and a half to the boat from our house.:D:laugh:

135 KM/H is 84 MPH....thats not bad for a Corvette....I wouldn't push it much more than that though. :)

Yeah, even a 'Vette is going to need more than 2500 RPMs to hit 140MPH. I wouldn't even want to think what would happen if you got pulled over for doing 100+.

If only I could convince the wife I needed a 1967 Camaro RS/SS with oh a 396 under the hood would do me just fine.

I'm sure you know that cars of that vintage in turnkey condition command a hefty price tag. I think of the cars that at one time were $1000 used while in HS and what they are worth now:eek:

I love the Chevelle's. The nice one's out there are big money. The styling is just awesome.

I think a 66 GTO would make me smile all the way to the lake!!

Whenever possible we cruise around in my Prius to get 45 - 50 mpg around lake (50 - 55 at home). If my husband wins we take his truck or whatever project car he is working on. We couldn't have more different taste in vehicles lol!

The European 914S version was last made in 1976: first gear would take you to 50-MPH. :eek2:

There was a four-cylinder "914S" shipped to the North America market.

I drove two different 914/6 models to Lake Winnipesaukee. On a whim, I left the race course at Pease AFB and drove my 1970 914/6 to check on our old cottage. The folks had sold it away earlier. :( But as a result of that 914/6 tour to Wolfeboro, I learned that the new owner was in bankruptcy court and we made an offer shortly afterwards—that got accepted! :) Then I had to scramble to find the money :eek:

You may be describing the 924S. At the time, the 924 was described as the "best-handling Porsche". (Perhaps by those who never mastered the 911S. :D)

Got my eyes focused on a silver 2002 VW GTI 4-cyl, 5-speed w/cassette player w/ 120k miles for $4000. Just trying to find the cash?

Good on gas, and a regular everyday driver; should be able to run it up to 200+k miles before things like struts, shocks, brakes, tires, belts, exhaust, engine bearings, alternator, power steering pump. and radiator all start to fall apart!

Seems like just about every car repair place now charges $80/flat rate hour. Must be someone decent still working for $45/hour that just wants to keep busy?

Very nice,my daughter still gives me hard time that we didn't keep one of the 7 FFR cars I built. I may resurect my 69 GTX soon if the economy turns.

Be careful out there. You take such lovely pictures. Don't have your personal sunset come too soon as it did with Janes Dean because he took his Porsch out for a too fast ride and lost his life and all of his potential for many wonderful films in the lost length of years.

Have had four Jeep Grand Cherokees starting in 1993, 1999, 2008, 2011!! Love them for any purpose. Lots of room and comfort, good in sun or snow, good for any boat movement needs, and seating make me high enough to see. The 2008 has the large hemi engine that I was told was just a bit more power (hates to pass gas stations) but it is often a lure for people like you when I am stopped at a light. They start their engines and try to get me to race!!!! Good luck wtih the car. Sure looks pretty but probably not good for the hair!!!! Please stay safe while you enjoy driving.

Well, most of you seem to have U.S. machinery, and I've had my Chevys (Corvair Monzas), Fords (Boss 302 Mustang and Probe GT), and Pontiacs (6000STE) over the years. But now that I've finally been able to convince myself (and the Mrs.) that I could have a summer car, I've been driving a 2004 BMW 330 Ci convertible for the past few years.

Lemme tell ya, it's a sweet little ride...quick but not blindingly fast, very smooth, excellent handling...and (believe it or not) over 30 mpg on the highway...when I behave myself. The only downside is the sucking sound I hear when I have to get it serviced by the dealership, which is my wallet being emptied.

BTW, my other vehicle is a ten year old Toyota Tacoma...which obviously serves different needs, but which I also enjoy thrashing around in.

Usually one of these although I prefer the one way in the back but it tops out at 9mph.

It was a 924S - that 914S was a typo. It was white, too - like the one in the pic in your link. Argie loved that little car. I referred to it as a souped up VW. :D
We sold it for a song... Argie had it for sale on the side of the road and a teenager and his dad came to look at it as a restoration project. The kid, as it turned out, had the goal of going to Porche tech school in Atlanta, GA. We'd started restoring the car a couple of years earlier - prior to the youngest Arglet's arrival... it was too much for us, really, with everything going on. Anyhow, Argie pretty much let the dad name his price for the car. I wasn't thrilled... I think he sold it for what we paid for to replace the windshield and some other parts... BUT... it was for a good cause...

Its not for sale because your son has his eye on it!

Thanks Lakesrider,it does bring back great memories and it's only been a couple of years since I sold the last one. The one in the video is almost the same color as it as well.

Bought this in 1992 when they first came out.....all wheel drive and all wheel steering.In 1998 I installed a Hennessey Motorsport Stage lll Turbo/exhaust/clutch upgrade,ending up with aprox 425HP.
Had to sell it because it was getting me in trouble but now I wish I had it back.

I am calling the truck abuse police, now great hauling truck deserves to be covered quite like that in Snow!!!!!:laugh::laugh:

I am sure he added that emblem on, but I will say that diesel powered pickup would blow the doors off a PI Crown Vic.

Our family had a beautiful blue GTO convertible in the late 60's. We use to drive it to high school. I sure wish we still had it. We still have very fond memories of it. i loved that car!

Yup, that's my favorite muscle car of all time! I like the looks of the new Challenger also and it's reasonably priced. If I'm lucky however my wife might let me get a new Caddy CTS-V this spring. It's a lot more practical than the Challenger and a super fun car!!
