2022 Rock Bass Master Classic - Free kid-focused Fishing Event

Hi all, wanted to share this fun informal “event”. running from July 2-8th. To join, visit the Facebook page and click “going” or “interested”. Aim for “Most Rock Bass caught”, and “longest Rock Bass Caught”. If supporting a child, you can join on their behalf and simply share photos of their fun and an update on their tally. In 2020 we had about 30 people take part, young and old! If curious, the fisherman with most fish caught was an 8-yr old who caught 89! The largest rock bass caught was an 11” catch. In summary, this is just a fun excuse to fish and focus on removing the invasive Rock Bass from Lake Winnipesaukee!

However a good idea. But No one with eliminate Rock bass from Winnipesaukee, Ever. They are here to stay. Without re-claiming the Lake and killing all species of fish ( which the state will NEVER do ). They are even in Newfound Lake which is suppose to be one of the cleanest lakes in the state. Winni is doomed to have them for the rest of your life.

Same with mosquitos...But I'll kill everyone I can. Gives me a certain primal satisfaction.

We've been struggling with milfoil for over 50 years, but that's no reason to stop our efforts. Clean, Drain, Dry.

A little bit here, a little bit there, adds up.

Rock Bass

Great idea... even if it is only a drop in the bucket...

Didn't read too much into the facebook page but I did not see any mention of keeping and disposing of the catch... no need for the honor system if you bring them all in in a bucket!

Cheers...

Gusman

For Milfoil maybe, Not for Rock Bass.

For Gusman, as for the removal/keeping, we eat some of the larger Rock Bass we catch, and burn the smaller ones In our fire pit. It’s the honor system on the # of catches.

That just means the fish dress code is professional casual.

I believe if this is called a " DERBY or a TOURNAMENT " you will need a Permit from the State of New Hampshire Fish and Game Dept.

Rock Bass Master Classic - 2022

Should really check 1st with the State if this is how you are going to Promote this.

Perhaps he did.

John Mercier 06-16-2022 12:21 PM

Then he would have the required permit; and the term ''informal'' would seem strange.

No worries, I'll call down to Fish and Game in Concord and verify they do. Then everything will be on the up and up. I'll Copy and Paste the original post and send it down to F&G for you. You're welcome. DEJ, you might have just opened a can of worms for being so snobby.

John Mercier 06-16-2022 02:10 PM

I couldn't find it on the schedule... but it is a terrific idea.

It would be a little too close on the date for me to get him a permit and a cost waiver, but would be something that could be set in place for next year.

My goodness what a Debbi Downer, Geeze.

Back off, folks. It appears this is informal in that there is no gathering place where people start and stop, or gather large numbers of boats, no entry fees or sign ups. No registration. You fish from your own dock shiore, whatever, and if you catch something, you enter it on FaceBook. It also appears that this is aimed at kids, who don't need licenses. And it's an unregulated species. I don't see that F & G has any interest in regulating anything on FB. Probably don't have authority to do so.

211:16-b Fishing Tournaments. –
I. No person shall promote or operate any fishing tournament in the waters under the jurisdiction of this state without first procuring a special permit from the executive director to do so.
II. The executive director shall adopt rules, pursuant to RSA 541-A, relative to definitions, fees, conditions, requirements for waivers, including waivers of the fee, qualifications, and all other criteria relating to the operation of a fishing tournament on any waters of the state.
Source. 1977, 27:1. 1996, 73:1, eff. July 12, 1996. 2015, 186:10, eff. July 1, 2015.

Even on Facebook and this site, it is considered to be promoted.
Prices awarded falls under ''operate''.

Descant 06-16-2022 02:56 PM

Jon Merecier--Thanks for the added info. Sounds like this is one of those things hat was never really anticipated when the RSA was written, but probably easy enough for the "operators" to comply. Reminds me of the kids who run a lemonade stand without a certificate from the board of health.

LIforrelaxin 06-16-2022 02:57 PM

Are you all serious, worrying about a permit for this .... come on, this is something to give some kids a little excitement while on vacation and learning to fish... leave it alone.... Fritoman appears to be a troll just looking to stir the pot to see what happens....

I honestly think this is an awesome idea.... and a great way to get a few less Rock bass in the lake.....

And to think I always thought I wanted to retire in NH, but lately the attitude of some people has me thinking retirement needs to be somewhere more remote, where the state moto is truely understood.

John Mercier 06-16-2022 03:02 PM

The proposed purpose is to have a positive impact on the lake.
The CO would most likely just shut it down and not impose the fines.

But if we wanted to do it year after year to have the desired impact... yes... it would require the permitting.

The fee can easily be waived as the purpose is of a public benefit.
And businesses can then further advertise and support through donates/volunteers to make the effort have some real long term impact.
