Depth per color of lead line?

Any ballpark correlation of color of lead line to depth? For example, every color equates to 5' of depth, so if fish are showing at 20', let out 4 colors' worth of line? Is it that simple?

I do have a fish finder, but no downriggers, so looking for a "model" to get close to the depth they might be showing at.

Thanks!

Many variables

At about 1-2 mph I estimate the line to sink about 6-8 feet. Speed and lure size can affect it but this is a good starting place

I have found with 1/4 oz or less lures and a speed of 2 mph, 5 feet per color is pretty darn close. Also line weight rating whether its 18 or 27 lb test makes no difference, the heavier braid on the 27 lb line has more drag which cancels out the weight difference... I only use 18 lb so I can fit as much as possible on the smallest reel spool. Tuf-Line micro lead is the cats pajamas!

lead core

troll to the shoals till you hang up.....I vouch for about 6':emb:
I think the line bellies a bit as you go out further....based upon my experience you might not hang up at 12' with two colors...
