Paugus Bay/Quimby Point structure

Yesterday I was on Paugus playing with my newly acquired Lowrance downscan and I saw something near Quimby point that caught my interest and may bring me back another time.

About 200 ' north of Quimby Point is what looks like a tall steel RR marker pole on the shore/edge water. Directly offshore about 300' are some interesting 15 - 20' sharp dropoffs observed. I was curious if these were possibly man-made historical pier supports or just natural features. The Bing aerial photo shows a sort of sand bar there but it's kind of a weird place for a bar. Any clue anybody???

Don't know where Quimby Point is but if its next to Pickerel Cove there is a barge in 23 ft.

Small point that sticks out just 3000'+/-? to W and N of Big Island. Duncan map calls it Quimby. Might be known now as Spindle Point?

Quinby Point is out beyond Channel Marine in P. Bay.

Downscan-is that side scan? Or 360 degree "scanning sonar"?

I am totally new at this. I bought the Lowrance Mark 4 last week. Cabella's had a nice clearance sale - $219 instread of 299. I want it for locating ledgy areas in my lake at home. I am getting into searching for lost fishing gear and the rocky areas are where you find the fish and lost gear.

Downscan is DSI technology. Part of the varied sonar technology package that Lowrance, and I think Hummingbird[sp?], are currently using for underwater structure identification. I am not familiar enough with it to teach YOU about it. It looks down directly under the boat and gives you a cross sectional graph that is almost a photo-like view of the water column and terrain you are passing over.

I am presently learning how to use it. Haven't got to the "posting images"
stage in my knowledge yet.

If anyone is really interested, Google "dsi sonar". There are several YouToob presentations that talk about it a little.
