Question for webmaster...is this normal?

Currently Active Users: 223 (18 members and 205 guests)

I had not been looking at that very much until recently. Seems that every time I look, there are a ton of guests on here. Is it members not logged in? Strangers? Lurkers?

Maybe normal is not the right word, as there is nothing wrong with unregistered guests.

I was just curious...

I have noticed the same thing. If you are lurking, sign up and join the fun!! Most of us don't bite.

Chip....I would say for every 10 times I "check in" to see what's hot on the forum, I actually login 1 or 2. Usually only if I want to post something.

Interesting. I am always logged in, makes it much easier to find the topics/posts that I have not read since my last session. Just my preference of course. Very rarely am I here and not logged in.

Yes, that is normal. Guests almost always outnumber members by around 10 to 1.

When I view the forum as an administrator I can see exactly how the visitors got here. At least half come from Google and other search engine referrals. It's interesting, I can click on the link and see exactly what they were searching for and the results they got. PhotoPost also contributes to those numbers. Google Images searches create many PhotoPost visits.

The rest are just lurkers. Most forum readers don't join or post. I read at least 20 forums regularly but rarely log in or post.

The number of visitors used to appear even higher until I eliminated BOTS from the count. The current numbers represent actual visitors in the last 15 minutes.

Most don't bite?
