Humming birds leaving

I must assume the Hummers have gone south due to the fact that last Monday while standing at the kitchen sink my Hummer flew up, hovered at the feeder then came to the window and hovered for a few seconds. Flying off and not showing up since.

Still Here

Our tiny visitors are still coming to sip at our feeders on East Bear Island. 🍷

In Center Harbor we haven't seen them for days. It seems a little early but they have their own clocks.

Seems this year was not a good one for them in my area. Only sporadic visits to my feeders by single hummers as opposed to them quarrelling with each other 2-3 at a time last summer.
On the other hand, we have a pair of beautiful, Pileated Woodpeckers that frequent a dying spruce tree near the house so we’ve been treated to their majestic antics and calling up close and personal!

I still had them at my feeders yesterday.

Me to in the southern part of the state, seen a lot of them this past week or so, maybe they are on the move south this week.

upthesaukee 09-06-2018 09:45 AM

Methinks they've said bye bye

It has happened suddenly, but methinks they have left.

I put fresh nectar out last Fri or Sat and we still had our 4 or 5 birds fighting over the feeder. Monday, no activity, save one that came early morning while I was drinking coffee. It stayed for about a minute, and then flew off. Haven't seen one since. Maybe it was one for the road.

I'll wait another day or so, and then call it a season.

Had one this am in Wolfeboro .

My feeders were being drained daily until sometime last week. Now 4-5 days and they are still half full...

Hummingbirds Still Here!

As of 5 minutes ago, one was at my feeder. It's slowed down, but the ones that are coming are taking very long drinks! Sad to see them go:(

swnoel 09-07-2018 04:59 PM

Watching one on the feeder right now... they haven't flown south yet!

We had three of them in the bee balm at one point while we were playing cards on the porch this afternoon.

upthesaukee 09-07-2018 10:53 PM

Still got 1

Still have one. Spent about 5 mins at the feeder just before dark.

Still hanging on... here's one hanging pout on the feeder, having lunch.

As you can see, the wind is really blowing hard. Feeder is almost straight out horizontal :D. (Sorry bout that! )

Same here, yesterday. He spent a few minutes on a clothesline pin, staring at the chickadees glomming sunflower seeds.

It's not there now, but we had a hummingbird feeder in that spot three years ago! :eek2:

I saw one today. He/she spent quite a long time feeding on a red flower.

barefootbay 09-12-2018 05:40 PM

Also had one today

upthesaukee 09-13-2018 07:27 AM

Stil here

No more fighting over the feeder, but we still have one (?). It goes to the feeder and also flies around the geraniums in the flower boxes on the deck.

Saw one at my feeder this morning. But nothing like the dozens of a few weeks ago.

IrishEyes 09-18-2018 12:51 PM

Just saw one at my feeder!

I left both feeders out in case there were still some Hummingbirds in the area. This morning it looked like the liquid had gone down some and sure enough a straggler just showed up at the feeder!:)

barefootbay 09-19-2018 11:45 AM

Reluctantly took mine down this morning. It is also a sad reminder that the season is about change.

IrishEyes 09-19-2018 07:11 PM

Saw another one today

Another straggler to fly south stopped by today for a drink! Spent some time at the flowers too.

upthesaukee 09-19-2018 10:19 PM

Ditto here

Same thing at our house. I was ready to pull the feeder, hadn't seen one in a few days, then here it was.

Yep... heading to warmer climates for the winter!

Barney Bear 09-20-2018 10:41 AM

Si, Si

I believe that the hummers in our area winter in Central America. 🌴

MV1 09-22-2018 07:34 AM

Still here

Had the regular pair here last night around dusk. Did have two pair last week but I don't think they will be here much longer.
