Dog Forum Section

We seem to have many dog-related threads lately. I am a dog owner and love talking about my 4-legged son as much as I love to talk about my two 2-legged sons.

It would be nice if we could centralize the information we're sharing in one forum.

Not sure what others would think about this - and it would be mean another section for Don "The Winni Wizard" to manage - but what about a "Pets' Place" forum. That way we can yammer on about our furry kids and not be insensitive to those who aren't pet lovers.

What do y'all think? :)

PS
Tried to edit the title of this thread with no luck - don't want to make the cats mad, so lets call it a pets' forum section...

Dog Forum

I was thinking about that the other day. I am new here to this Forum. I wish I could generate more interest in a walking group!

What do you mean Dog Forum? All dogs figured out that we cats rule the pet world. I know my humans have figured out whose boss is around our house.

I think a Pets section would be a great idea.

For one, it is great to see photos of others pets and share funny stories. Another reason, is my dog, Hunter, who just turned one April was sick back in Nov and Dec. His eyes were all swollen and breaking out. We had no idea what was wrong. We were back and forth to multiple vets until he was finally diagnosed. Just being able to share what we were going through would have been great. Who knows maybe there would have been someone else out there that had gone through this and could have offered up help.

Like Argie's wife noted, it would be a way of not being insensitive to those who don't quite share the love we have for our 4-legged friends.

Hunter is fine now and looking better than ever. Here he is on his first birthday! (I apologize in advance if the pic is to big.....first time posting a pic)

Why not "Critters"?

Some "pets" include New Hampshire fauna that stay here year-round and visit ME!

It's OK with me. One of my all-time favorite threads is Dogs on Winnipesaukee because of all the great shots of dogs at the lake, in the lake and on boats. Please also connect the topics in the new forum to the lake whenever possible.

I'll set it up tonight and move the current pet related threads to that area.

Hi Don - THANK YOU!!! You rock!

SteveA - That is a BEAUTIFUL cat! WOW!

SAMIAM - I am sure your Maine Coons are BIGGER than my Corgi! I also love Maine Coons! (I was first a cat person - now I'm a cat and a Corgi person!) :)

AcresPerSecond - How do you get those great pics??? :)

My baby....Hunter....was diagnosed with "Juvenile Cellulitis" or more commonlly known as "Puppy Strangles". He was about 6-7 months old. It is actually some thing that can lead to death. We went to two vets and finally...going to Angel Memorial...he as diagnosed. It was really a hard couple of months.....not knowing what was going on...not to mention how he looked. Just looking at him....you knew he was sick...but they did not know what the problem was.

It was something that he "woke up with one day". It really was heart breaking. I cannot tell you how bad my husband and I felt. He is 100% now. Had his first birthday on April 21st. He is a pain in As##....barking at nothing but the leaves moving....but I would not trade him for all the money in the world.

Thanks for asking dgp. I always love looking at your "avitar"....and Chips too!

But more importantly........I love that Argies Wife brought this up. If I had someone to share this with.....maybe someone could have helped me out. I only hope (not that I want a doggie to go thru this) that I can offer some help or advice sometime.

Yuki?

SteveA:

What a beautiful feline - great shot! Is that Yuki, the famous weather cat? We haven't heard about him lately. As he did not file his usual reports on the snow depths last winter, I have been wondering if he has gone into retirement or perhaps resigned from the job.

WinnDixie 05-06-2009 04:14 PM

Endearment!

So, eillac@dow: Hunter is a "Pain in the As*"? Well, of course!! It's a term of endearment, isn't it! Our dog certainly thinks it is!! Most importantly, you apply it, knowing all the while, you are beyond thankful to have such a precious member of the family barking/nagging for a walk/trying to push up the dinner hour a little....and mostly loving you absolutely. So glad for you that Hunter is doing great.

Rose 05-07-2009 08:00 AM

Our term on endearment for our dog, Bailey, is "Imin" which is short for "I'm in the way." Nick the cat is called "Little Imin."

Sounds like us... we call Tanker (our corgi) "PITA", which is the acronym for "Pain In The Ar$e" and I call our cat, Ginger, "Ho" because she likes to get on men and won't get off them when they try to stand up... :)

Hey, I work with a guy whose last name is Payne and I call him the same thing...except for him it's not a term of endearment.

We call our female cat a similar name (don't know if it's a word that should be censored but it rhymes with cut) because she's always lying around on her back with her legs spread wide open.

Yuki is alive and well, just took the year off.

Thunder Toes?? I love it!! There's some wonderful ingenuity going on in some of these names! Nice picture, too! We were fairly ordinary in naming our Sheltie: Molly. Her middle initial is "K", though: "KaChing"...need I say more! The pet industry certainly IS recession-proof!

They are officially known as Sonya and Sophie, Sonya is the one with no tail in the picture. Shortly after we moved here something happened and her tail was dislocated (we have no clue what she did), we had to have it amputated, it actually added to her character. Thunder Toes is what we call her when she runs around inside the house, we have mostly hardwood floors and she really trots hard on them.

I hadn't forgotten your question! :)

Some I save from this country's largest—and eclectic— forum, like photo #1.

Others are of my own pets, like photo #2 taken at our Winnipesaukee shoreline. :)
