Holiday Volunteering

My son and I are new to the area since July and so far really love it. Would like to give something back to the community and volunteer with helping serve Christmas Day dinner but we don't know where or who to contact. We live right on the Belmont, Winnisquam, Sanborton border off of Hwy 3 and would like to do something helpful that might not be too far away. Any leads or suggestions would be most greatful. Thanks and maybe a little early but Happy and safe Holiday to all here on the forum.:)

Wow. I thought sure this would be the place for a suggestion or 2 but with 400+ views I guess i was wrong. Thanks anyway.

I just did a quick Google search for soup kitchens and food pantries near Laconia and came up with this list:

https://www.homelessshelterdirectory...conia&state=NH

You should be prepared to be turned away for volunteering on Christmas day because of the large volume of people who show up.
Thanksgiving is a big day too. What they really need are volunteers for the other 363 days of the year.
Here's an article that explains:

That's great there so many are willing to help these days. Thanks for the info. We've never done it before and thought it was time to chip in.:)

Here is a general thought: check with the churches in the area, with veterans groups such as VFW, American Legion, even the Veterans' Home in Tilton. Check with the good pantries in the area. Read the Laconia Sun, and check their calendar section for leads on who to contact to see if they need help.

I hope you find something. We serve meals at our Legion Post in Alton at Thanksgiving, but Christmas is family at our
House. Good luck.

Dave

You can always check out the Greater lakes Region Children's Auction! It is my favorite charity all the money gets accounted for! No top heavy executives getting paid from the till!

https://www.facebook.com/ChildrensAuction/

It's for the kids!

and if you are feeling generous.....

If you are looking for volunteer work other than around the holidays, you might look into being a volunteer driver for the Interlakes Community Caregivers (http://www.interlakescommunitycaregi...volunteer.html). There are always those who have need, year round, to get to appointments and to things like the supermarket and post office but who can't drive themselves. It's a nice way to meet people, get to know where things are located, and in general to "be of use."

Great idea but just moved here this past July and don't know the area like a local. I really rely on my GPS which has been great.:emb:

Check out Hands Across the Table http://www.standrebessette.org/hatt1.html I volunteer there every few months, it's a great organization that provides a very needed service to about 150 folks from Laconia each week. I don't know if they are doing anything on Christmas itself but it couldn't hurt to ask.
