That's great news. Same or new owners?

tis 11-16-2017 06:29 PM

New owners. The Marriotts bought it.

bobkatfly 11-16-2017 06:56 PM

Just told my grandsons. They did a parade through the house chanting "Yum Yum gingerbread man is back". Hope it's true or I'm in big trouble.

Mr. V 11-16-2017 07:04 PM

I hope the quality of the products improves under the new owners compared to what it was when it closed.

The baked goods were merely OK, nothing special.

tis 11-16-2017 07:30 PM

It's true. I supposed something could always go wrong but I can't imagine why.

Looks like the Marriotts now own another 25 foot frontage on the lake. It will be curious to see what they end up doing with that property (besides reopening the Yum Yum shop).

.

That’s great news. My kids will be very excited. Always stop 3-4 times every season.

Marriotts bought the place so their grandkids or great grand kids would have summer jobs. The former owner/seller had to agree to return as manager for the deal to go through. So yes the quality will be the same white bread that has been offered in the past. Happy days for those who love donuts that taste like bread not donuts.

A huge number of people locally and around the country thought the baked goods were pretty special !

tis 11-17-2017 04:47 PM

I agree, Mr. V. I also thought it was not as good as it used to be. I still went there until they closed but not as often as I used to.

Mr. V 11-17-2017 06:54 PM

Perhaps it is that the quality of baked goods available in some of the better grocery stores has improved to such a level that they now compete, quality and product-wise.

I'd stop and buy again at the Yum Yum Shop, as the location is convenient; the product offered the last time I was good enough, but not great.

For me, "good enough" is good enough most of the time.

tis 11-18-2017 07:51 AM

I just don't think the food was the same as it used to be. Maybe they bought pre packaged things, I don't know. I mostly bought a dozen cream filled donuts and honey corn bread and neither were as good when the kids took over. And most of the time I called ahead or they didn't have enough.

I agree it was not as good as it used to be but the kids loved going into the store and the offering were still good but just not as good

Any update on the planned reopoening of the Yum Yum Shop?

Spring 2018 will soon be here.

dpg 01-30-2018 12:02 PM

Haven't been in there in 20 years and do not get the comment about the Donuts tasting like bread.

Yes, they are going to the planning board for approvals to renovate the building.

Great News. Hope they are open by Memorial Day. :)

Id like to hear reviews. :)

Service was terrible! You aren’t going to make it in the Peak of summer with a line out the door and 5 people behind the counter and one person serving customers! Not going to happen. No organization whatsoever.
Hope they get some training now while it’s slow.
Portions were small on some of the items. Definitely a tourist trap but hey when you’re on vacation money doesn’t matter right?

tis 06-12-2018 05:08 PM

In the old days, there was always a line out the door. They did have more than one person waiting on customers though.

dogma 06-13-2018 10:42 AM

Went in today. Good service and best of all, they had honey cornbread! So happy

tis 06-13-2018 12:14 PM

I LOVE the honey corn bread!!!!

Visited the Yum Yum Shop this afternoon.

Plenty of help behind the counter and service was excellent. Gifford's ice cream being served and everyone enjoyed it. The cases were loaded with delicious looking baked goods. The blue/white interior decor is adorable with a small area to purchase Yum Yum Shop apparel and an indoor table area with a fabulous water view. A small seating area out back and a beautifully landscaped patio and seating area in front. Happy to see the Gingerbread man weathervane and the Yum Yum Shop bench remain:)

Boaters were docking and folks walking over. The Marriott "kids" have done a great job!

$6 for a loaf of bread. $2 each for turnovers & spice bars! It will have to be a short season. Local folks won’t pay those prices.

A decent loaf of bread at Market Basket is $4 and a crappy Dunkin donut is over a buck at this point--these prices don't seem all that far off.

It's true. Doughnuts are $18. a dozen which is 1.20 each. I have to agree with WH59 I think it will be more of a treat than a regular purchase for most.

FlyingScot 06-16-2018 08:18 AM

I think those prices sound good for a treat--less than a candy bar.

My parents live in York, Maine where the local fish shop drops its prices in the Winter. That seems both smart and fair, maybe Yum Yum will do the same.

tis 06-16-2018 02:23 PM

Certain doughnuts are less than 1.20 too.

$18 ÷ 12 = $1.50 per donut.

tis 06-16-2018 05:44 PM

You are right. So where did the $18.00 come from? Must be more than 1.20.

Irish mist 06-16-2018 07:25 PM

Come on.....Market Basket Oat Nut bread is $2 & it's excellent. $6 is absurd.

This weekend I'm gonna pile the kids in the boat and take them for a treat at Market Basket. Can't wait!

If you're going to go to the nearest Market Basket by boat you better have good walking shoes for you and your kids. You might want to plan on staying overnight some place also.
Have a good trip and stay safe.:D
