Remotely Operated Vehicles / ROVs
 

As if I don't have enough equipment already and I use all of it-lots of scuba gear, diver propulsion vehicle, commercial and non-commercial side scan sonar systems, a boat.... however an ROV makes alot of sense to me and it's not the first time I have pondered buying one. Shocking I know.

Commercial systems can easily run hundreds of thousands of dollars and weigh so much you need a crane to get it off the deck into the water. Much smaller commercial systems such as the capable VideoRay product and other makes are available too.

Then you have systems like the Open ROV project, among other ones you can buy for short short money, relatively speaking. I am looking them over now for a possible purchase over the winter. Hardly a done deal but they are so useful it is a very compelling piece of equipment.

I have two targets in Winnipesaukee I found on sonar I have yet to dive that an ROV inspection would be really useful to have prior to the dive, oddly enough both at 106 feet.

One is definitely a vessel and the other definitely man-made but I cannot say exactly what the 2nd one is.

Not sure what if anything I will buy for an ROV but time will tell.

I've been thinking of one of the OpenROV toys for a while, and have been watching it.

They're about to launch a new version (The Trident), vs the do-it-yourself version, so I'm torn. ;)

Hit me up this summer. I realize this is an old thread - but I have an OpenROV original - and pre-ordered the Trident well over a year ago (I'm supposed to get it this spring) and plan on playing around with it on the lake this year off of my boat when I get the chance, so happy to go out and let you use them. Just checked and it says I should be getting my Trident early to mid may.

I also scuba dive and while it's been a while since I've gone, I plan on checking out what outfits there are on the lake to take a spin, or I'll just go solo off my boat.

Of course! Not a problem at all. I live full time near Manchester, NH but have a place in Gilford so while I'm not at the lake all the time, I'm up often enough.

I'm in Derry, and my boat is in Gilford, I'm there usually almost every weekend in the summer, so we're close enough on both ends.
