Make Trex great again
 

I have a trex deck that is a bit beat up and stained from heavy use, construction related work and paint drips. What can be done to make it look better? Can you paint it? I thought of sanding it lightly but I would think I would lose the fake wood grain. Any thoughts?

Never paint it. Power washing should remove most stains

I doubt any paint would stick to it long term and I found out the hard way that the top color layer is really thin. Maybe try cleaning with some steel wool

a strong power washers and perhaps a cleaner mixed in should do the trick

Which Trex ? Transcend, Select, Enhance or does it pre-date those ?

Use Touch-up Paint, and Blast the Rest of it!
 

I've sawed through some composite wood (like Trex) and found no color layer. :confused:

A damaged dock near me also showed no color layer. (Pic below).

If it were me, and since Trex can be slippery anyway, I'd sandblast the whole surface. :eek:

The paint drips can be matched to the Trex color and by using a cheap "flux brush", touch them all up by hand. I had a similar "drip" problem with different colored pavers next to the house, and had to mix several different batches :o .

dunno. mine is gray on the inside and tan on the outside. maybe some other brand.

Depends on the manufacturer and level of product you purchase, some are capped or encased, where others are the same material inside and out
Also sometimes reason for why stairs and decks are picture framed in, instead of just the look, which is a nice clean look.

Power wash it and use some bleach if it's not a dock. But that's exactly why I didn't like the Trex. What you think is stain might be the wood inside which gets moldy.

I used the term Trex as more of a generic term for the product. Not sure exactly what brand it is but I scrubbed with a deck cleaning product and then pressure washed and it worked pretty well. Some oily type stains still there but much better than before.

We used Zep cleaner on the deck and the stains came right up. You might want to contact the manufacturer.

Do you have any experience with this product? I was wondering if it dented if something heavy was dropped on it, and does it have a loud sound when the lake driving rain hits it?

also does it scratch?

Was going through the website, and those three concerns did not seem addressed. I like it in the fact about the lockdry system that I can not get leaves and stuff stuck in the middle and i can store kayaks underneath and they not get soaked and full of water. making room for other things. Then also that no bugs come up from underneath.

I will be doing my deck over in the next few years, hopefully when materials costs slow down and contractors as well

I wonder how they keep it cool so your feet don't get burned.

Curious, I was looking through Google for removing scratches from Trex, when that site popped up in the search window.

I suspect they've addressed all those issues by wrapping aluminum around pressure-treated wood. ;)
