Inspection Sticker in Northern Massachusetts

I had to break down and purchase a new vehicle from a dealership up here. Insurance agent is sending a runner to the registry and will e-mail (PDF) my new registration sometime next week......then I'll need a safety sticker from Mass. where the vehicle is registered. Rather than travel to the south shore of Mass, where I usually get my safety inspections done, can anyone suggest a place up closer to the NH border and Interstate 95?...such as Amesbury, Newburyport or Salisbury? Thanks in advance for your suggestions! :liplick:

In NH the dealership will put the first inspection sticker on the vehicle before it leaves the lot. Is it different in MA?

Virtually every gas station with a repair bay in Mass does inspections. Google by town and you'll likely see several to choose from.

Currently the new vehicle has an inspection sticker from Maine. However it is being registered in Mass......so......don't I need to get a Mass inspection sticker? (within seven days?)

arrival date?

I think the rule is you have x days to get the sticker after "returning" to the state./ A sticker from another state shows good intent if you got stopped. A gas or other receipts would show absence from the state, although I can't imagine anybody would go that far unless a zealous lawyer tried to demonstrate negligence if you were driving an unsafe car and an accident resulted. That's a pretty big stretch on many fronts.

7 days to get a sticker. Will need a mass plate

The state of MA has a website listing all inspection locations.

Thanks 8gv and all others. The forum is always a wealth of information. I know my question is only tangentially related to the lake.....but.....the new vehicle is my first pick-up truck and is capable of towing a boat (a big boat!) which is potentially in my future!!

If you're coming down 95 there are several inspection stations in Amesbury.

If you're coming down 93 there are several inspection stations in Methuen.

Enjoy your new truck!

Cantin Chevrolet in Laconia will do a multi point inspection for free, which is always a good move with a used vehicle, plus it's a low price ...... free, with an appointment ..... and you get to window shop a $95,000 Corvette, up close.

..... always hate going into a car store and not buying something expensive!

I purchased a 2019 RAV4 from a dealer in NH. They did not have what I wanted on their lot but found one at an affiliated dealer in Portland, ME. They picked up the vehicle in ME and brought it to the NH dealership and did everything.

Twenty day plates, NH inspection sticker and called my insurance company (with me on the phone as well) to transfer the insurance to the new vehicle.

I did the same thing when i lived in VT. Purchased from a VT dealer but the car came from NY. That dealer did the same.

I don't know about now, but in the past, if it was going to be expensive to pass inspection in NH, I would reregister in Mass and get a sticker. That way I buy time to find a sweet car!

Nearly every winter somebody has their truck go through the ice.

Therefore, pickup trucks are lake related.

Hopefully yours will be less so. ;)
