Is it a Duck?

I have friends that are very interested in finding out what kind of duck this is.
I assume it is not a new species. |
Close
Merganzer. They fish like loons but often have upwards of a dozen chicks.

Cormorant
Looks like the Double-crested Cormorant:
https://www.audubon.org/field-guide/...sted-cormorant https://cdn.audubon.org/cdn/farfutur...?itok=8BxLc2Fc "...is the most generally distributed cormorant in North America, and the only one likely to be seen inland in most areas." |
Oops
I stand corrected. My ID was a bit hasty. 😝

If you look at the picture I have posted you will see plastic tape blowing in the breeze. The tape has a hologram lasered onto it that is supposed to drive birds crazy and make them fly away.
I'm trying to figure out if it works very little, or not at all. |
Maybe try tossing a Cheez-it, original flavor, at it, like tossing a Frisbee, just to see what happens and let us know? How does a Double-crested Cormorant react to a Cheez-it?

Does it quack?

Down Mainahs call em “$hi&t ducks”
Good ol’ ladybird Johnson somehow got them on the protected species list much to the dismay of the fishermen...they claim the “S” ducks eat too many fish. Before ladybird’s proclamation, they used to shoot them on sight. Now everywhere is overrun with them. |
