Tough Mudder @ Gunstock June 1st

I am coming up from CT to participate in the T.M. at Gunstock Mnt. Sat. June 1st. The logistics for the event are a little messed up as they are now saying we need to park at New Hampshire international speedway, 20 miles away. We have rented a condo near the lake. The question is if anybody within a mile of the event would allow parking at their house or business for the day, Saturday, for pay of course. Thank you!

I'll also be there partaking in this event. I didn't notice any updates pertaining to parking, but that should get pretty interesting.

Best of luck in locating a parking area. I'm sure someone will come through for you.:)

I'm going to bump this as I'm looking for recommendations. I'll be coming from Suissevale, but I think it's ludacris that we have to go to the NHMS to park and get shuttled to Gunstock. Any ideas?

PaugusBayFireFighter 05-28-2013 12:53 PM

I live in Laconia, about 10 minutes from Gunstock. I have plenty of parking and could work something out with shuttling.
A family member, visiting this past weekend, is also in the event. She asked if she could park at the house and cab over to Gunstock as she too thinks parking at the race track is absurd, especially if you're staying near the lake. I told her she could park here and I could shuttle them back and forth depending on the times. Maybe I can help others? :rolleye2:

Same info on the Gunstock web site:
http://www.gunstock.com/events/events/212/

Interestingly there are DOT electronic signs in the area warning of heavy traffic June 1 & 2 even though participants and spectators alike are not allowed in except by official shuttle bus from NHMS.

They really are trying to make this a burden on us. Very inconvenient if coming from the north, which I am. I guess we just have to live with it...feel free to send cards or visit while I'm sitting in the hospital from this event :liplick::D:emb:

Real "TOUGH MUDDERS" wouldn't let a little thing like this bother them!! :coolsm:

Overlake97 05-29-2013 04:25 PM

Can't just walk over, even if registered?

I live about a mile from Gunstock, but it sounds like I could not just walk over. Is that correct?

Who came up with this ridiculous idea?

Wow, $20 to be a spectator, $40 the day of the race, cash only.
It looks like spectators have to also drive down to the speedway and get bused in. The speedway is charging $10 to park unless you have 4 or more in your car, then it is free. No comment!

Shreddy 05-30-2013 07:13 AM

Yeah - I must admit they truly know how to get every nickel and dime out of us. Average entry fee is about $175 and I believe they're expecting 16,000+ participants...not including spectators! The business idea is simply genius...

bhardman 05-30-2013 08:05 AM

They really can't stop you from walking in can they? It is land of the free.
My only complaint is that is parking thing was not talked about on there web site until many people had already gotten accommodations closer to the event than parking area

SIKSUKR 05-30-2013 09:40 AM

Thought this was funny.Found it in the info for this event on the tough mudder site.

Hydration system – FILLED WITH WATER, not beer. June weather in Pennsylvania is unpredictable – please take a look at the forecast and come prepared.

That's one TOUGH and long course!

I agree. But, if it's any consolation, keep in mind that at least some of the proceeds go to the Wounded Warrior Fund. I wonder how many spectators they will have who are willing to cough up $40 to watch? I know one who won't.

So how did this event go off? Anybody attend or participate?

I did it. It was one of the funnest events and surely the toughest event I've ever done. The obstacles were fun, running up Gunstock five times not so much! It was a blast though all around and just a great atmosphere between all of the competitors!

We all kind of griped about parking ahead of time, but the more I thought about it, there was no better way to do it with 10,000+ people coming per day. There would never have been enough parking at Gunstock and it would have been a nightmare for participants, spectators, and drop offs.

Good for you Shreddy, completing one of those events is no small feat.

We stopped at UNO's in Concord at about 8pm on Saturday and there were two groups of Mudders in the lounge. No doubt enjoying a few pints of well deserved beer. When they walked by on the way out those lads looked dog tired.

Any place on the net to see photos from this event?

Also...Thank You! I've never ran more than a 5K in my life, so this surely was a challenge. It's unfortunate that I'm already signed up for the Spartan Beast at Killington in September! :D

That's quite impressive! I've run two full marathons in my life and chickened out on Tough Mudder.
