Dead Porcupines

OK, I know this is strange but in the last several days I have seen at least 4 road killed porcupines in the Gilford area. If that wasn't enough today we saw a dead one in the lake right off Lincoln Park....poor guy must have drowned. Of all the crazy things you see floating in the lake that was a first for me. What's happening here?

From Minge to just outside Alton bay last three weeks I have seen dead ones also.

They are nocturnal animals, have not a lot to fear from most other animals, and do not run (waddle ) very fast. Accordingly, crossing the proverbial road to get to the other side can be no problem some nights, other nights maybe not so easy.

I live here... I am always Upthesaukee.

Seen a few near Bristol too. Just an active time for them...more active, same stupid, more dead.

Porcupines

In the past few years, I've seen a huge increase in porcupines. I see them all the time in Meredith in our neighborhood. I've also seen quite a few while deer hunting the past 2 years. I had one climb a tree about 25 feet in front of me and take a nap. I had no idea that they did that. I've also noticed quite a few porcupine "dens" when in the woods. Maybe just the increase is why you are seeing the road kill numbers increase.

It's a little strange that they're increasing In #'s so much given that there biggest predator Is the Fisher which are more common then ever. I see them often out hiking where as in the past I would go years without seeing one.
