Loons

Looking out the window a few minutes ago, revealed roughly two dozen young loons "fishing".

Glad to see so many :)

Loons

I don't expect the fish are as happy as you to see the loons.

Are you sure they're Loons? I've observed similar activity here in Moultonborough but they are Mergansers. Fun to watch!

Unless there are no neck Mergansers, pretty sure they were loons :)

I live in M'boro bay, near Suissevale.

This is good news.

With the Corona Virus situation the loons may have a good year since there is a good chance the lake may see less human and boating activity this summer.....

Special Loons

Canadian geese. Loons have the ring around the neck, geese have long necks and white "cheeks".

Canadian longnecked Loonies. A close relative created by species intermarriage!

Catamarans All Sold Now...

If you've spent time sailing a catamaran on the Big Lake, eventually a Loon will pop up between the hulls!

Loony tunes

A pair of loons have returned to Braun Bay this week. They are doing a lot of fishing. I guess a long winter.

Anyway we will be setting up the loon nest soon. With luck they will breed better than last year. Five eggs, no chicks that made it.

One problem.... there is what seems to be a young eagle in the neighborhood.
Who do you root for?
