cleaning a microwave oven

Am looking for a good way to clean the inside of a microwave. Have heard that by turning it on high for ten minutes with a combined bowl of lemon juice and salt it will clean itself. Is this true? How does this work? Anyone know anything about this or a similar method that is thoroughly clean.

I've always put a bowl of water in and done what you said.
Usually letting the water boil for a few minutes will loosen up anything thats stuck to the inside and you can just wipe it off.

toss a wet sponge in for 30-60 seconds. moisture loosens the gunk and the heat kills the nasties living in your sponge. a 2 fer 1.

Aahh Less,It would probably be easier to wipe it down after you use it.Sorry, couldn't resist.A microwave works by exciting the water molecules in the food which in effect start to "boil" or make steam to heat the food. The food that has splattered inside your oven will have all the water driven away after repeated uses and the food becomes dried/baked on.As mentioned by BR,letting water boil inside the oven will rehydrate and soften the food and allow you to wipe it off. PS it is easier to wipe any splatters right after using the oven. SS
