Is it possible for Copple Crown Ski Resort to reopen?
I heard a rumor that someone bought and is reopening the Copple Crown Ski Resort in New Durham/Wolfeboro. I am wondering from my research if that is even possible. It sounds like it would be a great place if it was reopened and for the public (originally it was only private). I'm sure it would have night skiing and be updated with a chair lift verses rope tow and T-bar. However, from my research I discovered several reasons that make this rumor unlikely. I read that a person's house is located at the top of the left trail, also since the place closed in the late seventies the trials are reforested and now there is a golf course on part of the mountain. Does anyone know anything about this topic and the possibility or impossibility of this rumor?

Here's some info on the old area from the New England Lost Ski Area Project.

Just rumors
I was told there is a condo development around the golf course on the plans. The trails are reforested and the lifts are gone.
There are houses around what use to be the base. So I am sure the land is divided. |
Moose Mountain Ski Area
The Moose Mountain Ski Area in Brookfield has been brought back. They are still in the process and hope to have snowboarding and tubing this winter.

Snowboarding & Tubing Fun at Moose Mt. in Brookfield
Thank you. I will look into the Moose Mt./Brookfield snowboarding/tubing for this winter. I have not done either, but I would like to...both look really fun. King Pine and Gunstock look nice and close for skiing.

Whither Copple Crown
RE re-opening as ski area. Seems unlikely, as it has been re-developed into a golf course and club. However, the history of the golf operation includes several changes in ownership and direction over the last 12 years (my time the Wolfeboro area). It had been called Perry Hollow in the late 90s; not sure if it was private or private with public times/ days. I played it before 2001 (9 holes in the afternoon) that's all I know for sure. Post then, it changed ownership and went to an exclusively private club (e.g. $50k entry fee type club) and renamed itself the Winnipesaukee Golf Club. Have no idea how it is getting by financially, but it is certainly a fact that there is a surplus of golf courses / clubs these days.
It is a beautiful course ; wish it were public. |

Moose or Whittier?
Are sure you didn't mean Mt. Whittier. I'm pretty sure Moose Mt. is miles away from Rte. 16. Mount Whittier, in Ossipee, is close to where 16 and 25 intersect. The lift base was on the East side of 16 close to to where McDonalds is now.

I hear ya".
I remember as a little kid how amazing that was, and to see the skiers on the mountain so far away they looked like ants!
