Windy!!

Winds just hit 36 mph on Welch Island! 4’ rollers crashing up over my breakwater!

Think I’ll go for a swim! 😳😳

Would be great if you can upload some videos showing the waves and wind!

I have a video on my phone but don’t think this site lets you upload. If I had a desktop here on the island I could upload to YouTube then post link but no desktop here, just iPads and iPhones...

Well, Dan, jump in the boat, then get in the car, go to the house, get on the computer, and do the YouTube thing! Geeeez 😁

I kid you not Hill, at 6:00 AM this morning with 30 mph winds and snow blowing like crazy, a small aluminum boat went by my camp attempting to troll! It was the most insane thing I have seen as it was completely un-fishable no matter what size boat you have!!

Lol...I did see some guys that went out this morning on FB (Fish Lake winni) and they had the lines screaming with lakers! I don’t mind a little wind but the cold throws a damper on things...if you “go for a swim” be careful...it’s “acorn” season!

I could understand fishing the bays or coves where it’s somewhat sheltered, but out here around Welch, that’s just insane!

Email it to Dave and HE can upload to you tube. He sold his boat and it's too windy to golf, so I know he has the time.
BTW, use my beach if you like. Not windy there at the south end of the Bear's Trail.

See post #7... I was able to figure it out and posted video.

Thanks for the offer but we are here on the island and not moving!

Unbelievable. Thanks for sharing. In addition to the wave action, the flag action you can see while you were panning tells it all.

Thanks, Dan. I guess while I was logged in, new posts weren't showing up, or maybe I just didn't go back to look. We are fortunate to have a family presence on both sides of the island. When it is blowing like crazy we can go to the other side where it is calm. ~10 minute walk.
Watching the water break over your breakwater reminds me of stories of folks with small boats with no automatic bilge pump, being swamped while they were tied behind the protection of the break water. Ironic.

ursa minor 05-09-2020 02:19 PM

Ayuh, that looks sporty. Better take the Eastern if you need to venture out!

MikeF-NH 05-09-2020 06:20 PM

Wow...that looks nasty out there. No thanks! When I saw the forecast, it seemed like a lost weekend for fishing. I wouldn't even want to be out in your Eastern today Dan! Looks like you are marooned on Welch (how terrible....lol)

What was the peak wind for the day ? Anyone know what it was.
Had to be tough out there for the dedicated.

Two camps down from me and more exposed to the North had a 51 mph top speed for the day. My weather station showed 38 mph top speed.
