Dog Boots?
 

The snow, ice and rare dry pavement are mighty cold this year.

I ordered up some doggie boots from Amazon for my 10 year old Springer Spaniel.

She was not impressed!

Before I knew it, my daughter confiscated them for her two year old Brittany and departed back to her Boston apartment.

If her Brittany tolerates them I may consider another go at this for my dog.

Can those who have tried these please advise?

We have tried various types of boots on our Lab and followed all of the tips for getting him to wear them. Perhaps if you start as a puppy they will work but our dog simply sits and will not move. Once when he had a paw injury he did tolerate one boot but on all four paws — no way.

I think they lick half of it off but it really seems to help with their paws not getting too cold.

I am going to try that stuff.

How can you tell? Any opinions from a veterinarian or an actual musher?

Search sled dog racing. Seems like the owners protect their dog's paws with booties.

Dog Boots
 

I tried dog boots and they turned Harry into a statue. :laugh:

Years ago I was able to get one on Mac’s injured foot. He would only allow the one. Lol

We use mushers secret all the time for our Black Lab. Stuff works great.

Mushers secret here too...the pooch loves the massaging of her feet and so far no damage from the cold/ice/salt etc.

Now that's funny right there.

Protex Pawz
 

We bought Protex Pawz at Petco (also available via Amazon) for our Golden Retriever. They work well and he's very tolerant of them. In fact, once he's got them on and steps outside all he wants to do is run like a lunatic.

We turned them inside out and reinforced the bottom with a bit of duct tape (to protect against nail punctures) and then flipped them right-side out to put them on him. It does take two people to put them on, though: one to help hold his paw and the other to spread the mouth of the bootie wide to slip it on.

Had them a week and so far so good. Deep snow no problem and walking on salt covered pavement, no problem.

Not a musher...
 

...but I have been on 3 dogsled camping trips. The guides said the booties were for protection from ice, not for cold.
While we had the booties on all 3 trips I dont remember any of the dogs wearing them.

We have tried several different types of booties. We have Labradoodle, and like a Lab, his feet are different sizes. We only buy the expensive booties from Ruff Wear. They make the best dog accessories. Love the Musher's goop as well. The booties from Ruff Wear are like $100
