Not even close yet! I still saw some bob houses out there this weekend.

fatlazyless 03-25-2019 02:56 PM

In the past 2-3 hours, heading around the south end of Bear Island towards Mark Island, have seen a large air boat, a small atv, a larger enclosed atv, and a snowmobile with two on-board towing a red plastic sled.

Looks like all the snow has set up, changing from snow to a white dense surface that seems to have enough grip for tires and treads. Has been too cold to go gray, and is still look'n like winter white so's is between going from snow to slippery ice, and is very white.

Could easily hold a 26-mile marathon running event on this lake surface, using running shoes with small short cleats, long underwear under your running shorts and shirt, a hat, gloves and sunglasses or if that sun is out and warm'n up the lake, then just run it in your bvd's while holding a glass of Guinness.

An event similar to www.baikal-marathon.org which could take place on the mid March weekend either including, or just after March 17, Saint Patrick's Day. Would still be winter, getting close to spring, and the ice conditions could be good for a running event. In any event, would be a great day for the lake, and a fine way to celebrate the memory of Saint Patrick.

Here's to a Saint Patrick's, Lake Winnipesaukee, 26-mile marathon running race ...... an excellent New Hampshire warm-up race event just one month before the famous Boston Marathon that's held on April 19 .... on the totally flat as a pancake, Lake Winnipesaukee frozen ice surface.

Did your friend really miss all the live webcams around the lake? :D :

Lake is still locked in ...rode the lake yesterday and was fishing along the way. 24 to 30 inches of ice depending on location. Its going to be another three weeks at best before ice out.

I’m sure you all get this was a tongue in cheek post .....I’m just so sick of bare trees and piles of snow that I wanted to get my Forum friends talking about warm weather things. Enjoy!

It was mostly tongue in cheek but also serious. It's discouraging when someone on this site asks if the ice is out yet when there are 20-30 live webcams on the lake where you can see the ice yourself. The WeirsCAM page shows 13 of them. Is the WeirsCAM page too hard to find on this site?

Ha! You're worried about people making the effort to look in another place? They don't even make the effort to read previous posts. The ask questions that have been answered more than once, or they way things that have already been said. Maybe even one post above!! Sorry, it is just one of my pet peeves. When I post I try to make sure my question hasn't already been answered or my remark already stated.

TIS I absolutely agree. It’s seems lazy when people do not read the previous posts then ask or answer the same thing over and over. This happens all over social media.

Weekend forecast if accurate is saying it's going to get into the 60's. That should help get things started in the right direction.

Thank you! I am glad I am not the only one who gets frustrated. And yes, it happens all over social media!

I'd say chill to some of the responses on here, but we're hoping for the opposite.

I absolutely know that it's not ice out yet, I check the cams regularly...I'm just trying to have a little fun here. You remember fun right? You all have to lighten up! There is a reason why I put one of these :D in my post. I'M KIDDING!! Kinda like when your 8 year old asks you "Are we there yet?" 17 times during the hour trip to the lake. I'm just being a wise a$$ that's all.

This response is way too crabby. I see the lake in person several times a month, and look at the cameras as well, but have also been looking for the first discussions of ice-out on the forum. In the past there have been interesting observations about smaller ponds that are out, and how the timing relates to ice-out on Winnipesaukee. It's fun to read people's observations and guesses about when the ice will be out. Yes, the cameras are informational, but some discussion is fun also.

Sorry- this response from the webmaster is harsh when people are just trying to engage with each other. Which is the point of the Forum, right??

sum-r breeze 03-26-2019 03:13 PM

I just checked the Weirs Cam (like I was instructed to do) and there is a slice of open water between the Ice Pack and the front of the Pier. Do you all think I can have a military style, double rotor type Helicopter air lift my boat and drop it in front of the pier so I can get a jump on the opening of Sal's Pizza ? Just wondering....:D:D:D:D

MAXUM 03-26-2019 03:45 PM

Sal's Pizza at the Weirs? Really?

WinnisquamZ 03-26-2019 03:48 PM

Love Sal’s Pizza

It was a little rough. Maybe even worse than a few of my posts that have been deleted.

But remember, it’s his world and we are living in it [emoji33][emoji4] I hope this isn’t deleted [emoji23]

I put a :D in my reply too. What you don't see are the numerous emails I have received through this site in the last few weeks asking me if the ice is out yet. It should be understandable that I get a little frustrated at those questions when I provide a live view of the lake and ice that is a prominent feature on this site.

It is the exact same thing as people not reading a thread before posting an answer or comment that had previously been posted. People can be lazy not just physically but mentally.

Pam, are you having trouble engaging with anyone on this forum? I just made a comment. I didn't delete anything or stop anyone from commenting and I rarely do. I really don't think my comment was that harsh. The OP put a smiley face on his post and I put one on mine. If you think my comment was unacceptable then you're holding me to an impossibly high standard.

The Webmaster does a great job maintaining and updating this website.

Those of us that have been on the Forum for a long time have seen the times that he has to step in and remove postings for bad language or unacceptable comments. I am sure it is frustrating at times when he needs to step in and moderate a discussion. He has to check the site several times a day to be sure nothing offensive has been posted, and when he sees the need he moves comments that are posted in the wrong thread to the proper place.

It is not as if he gets a big salary to maintain the site that all of us enjoy. I say "thank you" for the many hours of enjoyment and all of the helpful information that has helped to make the lake even more enjoyable. This site is a great, free resource.

Agreed. This is one of the best forums I visit on the web. Well run, and full of great "entertainment" and information. We are truly fortunate for the efforts of our Webmaster.

I love the Forum, and certainly don't think your comment was inappropriate or really insulting. Like I said, I thought it was a little crabby. It's easy to get frustrated with people when they ignore the attempts to provide ample information and ask "dumb" questions- I know this. But you did needlessly reprimand the first poster a bit, I think. My message was merely in defense of this person, who was just engaging in some banter. No harm done.

I greatly appreciate this forum . Carry on the good work. Ice out will make everyone feel better.
