Ragged Island Approach

I have heard that there is a nice beach and a hiking trail on Ragged Island. Looking at it on Google satellite view, looks to be a very rocky area, lots of submerged hazards. What is the best approach by power boat?

Approaching from the southwest, come in slowly just south of the swimming area. If you trim up halfway you can get within 20’ of the island without trouble.

They have docks at Ragged. Use them!
From the south the approach is wide open and trails are accessible to both east and west sides. The west side beach is great if you have kids as it is roped off and sandy. The higher water this year has rendered the east beach to a wading pool with little sand to sit on but is beautiful! They have rest rooms as well near the docks.
I was told by the people that take care of the island that approaching and anchoring anywhere else on the island is discouraged but they don’t stop people from doing it. On a crowded day it may be the only way to use the island as the docks fill up and there is a 3 hour limit that is enforced by attendants.

This is very helpful, thanks. Hope to get there in just about 2 weeks.

We were just there and used the docks. It’s about 3-4’ around the docks but clear visibility. I wanted to try to go to where boats were anchored the day before, but found a rock so turned back. Just didn’t feel like rowing all the way in. Nice little island to walk around my 2 and 4 yo boys were having fun exploring!

It is a bit tricky but as said the best approach is from the South. I like to aim towards the middle of the two docks on the South side of the island and have someone in front watching and as with everything else...go slow ;)

Also, it's a really, really great place for a picnic lunch...
