Black spots?

1 Attachment(s)
We have always had the black spots shown in the photo on our trim boards and siding. The are hard to the touch and almost impossible to wash off. I always assumed they were some type of insect egg casing. Other theories proposed are that they are fungus spores. Or perhaps spider poop (though the circles seem to perfect for that).

Any forum members who know the definitive answer?

Bark Mulch

One cause would be spores shot out from bark mulch? Is there mulch near the dots?

Pine chips

I cheaped out and used pine chips near my camper what a mess.

Thanks for the link to the article on fugus spores. That's what we suspected it was and the article seems to confirm it. We do have mulch all around the house.

After two years of cleaning this stuff I finally discovered what it was. Our HOA has a landscape company that puts down our mulch in spring and fall. I had to remove all of the mulch this past weekend and then get sone landscape fabric and I bought black rubber mulch. ( black required by HOA). I also had to make a sign for the landscape co. Employees to make sure they don’t throw mulch there anymore. Looks ridiculous having the sign in my front yard but no way do I want to go through this again.

It took hours to get most of those black spots off my white trim, front porch railings and porch lattice.
