Worlds Fastest Pontoon Boat
1 Attachment(s)
This Southbay pontoon boat just did 112 MPH at the Lake of The Ozarks shootout!!
Now to keep this lake related, who's the Southbay dealer on the lake? :D |
That's sick!! I don't think I could hold my beer steady while going to the weirs....:D
|
How did they keep it from flipping at that speed? I would think that much horse power would have created an air pocket under the floor and the drag on top would be enough to flip it.....

A delicate ballet of horsepower, aero & hydrodynamic forces. Impressive.

It's all in the motor trim angle. Looks like an almost normal Tunnel Boat. :D NB

There are 'toons
on the lake that are capable of breaking the speed limits. Last month just before a thundershower, I was leaving Moultonborough for the Weirs. Between Three Mile island and Bear, a pontoon pass me as if I was standing still. I was going 45! Everyone on that boat was hanging on for dear life. The boat was so close to mine, we felt the spray.
I didn't notice the make and it was an i/o. I bet it had a BIG block! |
Those three Merc 300's are all two-strokers that are promoted to "Set the Water on FIRE" by Mercury Outboards which means they make a great big huge loud buzzing sound at higher speeds, plus put a lot of stinky two-stroke oil, burned smoke into the air for everyone to smell. Aside from the 112-mph speeding boat; big speed makes for big loud sound and big dirty smelly smell ..... as well ...... yuch-O .....the need for speed !!!

Ozarks Shootout
I just got back from the Shoot Out and the highest speed recorded/reported by any boat was 192 MPH! And there were a number of pontoons that exceeded 100 MPH. Quite a wild race. Their Water Police, as they are called, must have had their hands full. THere were hundreds of boats rafted together in an area half as wideas the Broads.
WHen the race was over at about 5 PM, WP seemed to give up as all of the boats took off down the lake. That is when all hell broke loose. The waves created by the boats leaving had no where to go between the high banks on each side, so it boiled up and threw boats all over. It was a wild ride. We pulled the 38 foot boat we were riding on into a bar to give the lake time to settle down. Interesting day! |

Expensive!
With the engines coming in at 61K I wonder what the total cost would be for the whole package.

I bet that cat was working his trim!
|
I looked at Southbay's last Feb. at the Boston Boat Show. I was not impressed. I decided to buy a Harris and I love it!
