El Jimador

Terrible food, terrible service, not much else to say, except avoid!

upthesaukee 07-07-2016 10:09 PM

Seeing as how they have 3 locations, and I frequent the one in Belmont and have never had a bad meal or bad service, I'd like to know what location you are talking about. A few more details might be helpful to understand your feelings and concerns. Thanks in advance.

I live here... I am always Upthesaukee.

Mr. V 07-07-2016 10:22 PM

I live out west where there are more Mexicans, and the El Jimador in Belmont is comparable to what I find out here.

Not great, but far from bad.

weirs location

Went there over weekend, they went out of there way at a very busy time to set a table of 6 for us upstairs at bar . We had Great Food, Great Service & a very Friendly Staff . We will be back many more times

HAMPTONS 07-08-2016 07:00 AM

My family ate last night at the Belmont location. Food was good, as usual. Place was very busy. Service was also good

Winnisquamer 07-08-2016 07:53 AM

I like the Belmont location. Haven't tried the others yet, looking forward to trying the new Weirs location.

Ate there many times, always had a great meal. Service is also good.

Bigstan 07-08-2016 08:21 AM

Went to the Weirs location last weekend mid afternoon, there were two other tables and us.

Service was ok, a tad slow, but no rush so that was fine.

Ground beef was dry in all items that contained it. Same for the rice. Everything else was fine. Nothing terrible, but our experience in Belmont has always been superior. I guess we just got what was pre-made for the lunch crowd and had been sitting for an hour or two..

We'll go back, but probably during prime-time lunch or dinner hours.

phoenix 07-08-2016 12:13 PM

I have been to the one in Belmont and to me it is the best mex in this area. I plan to visit the weirs location in August and I'll post how it compares

Duke's 07-10-2016 09:28 AM

We had lunch at the Weirs location yesterday. We sat in the bar area. Food was great. Just as good as Belmont. The wait staff were friendly and attentive.

phoenix 07-10-2016 06:42 PM

Good to know

jacka82942 07-11-2016 04:58 AM

great meal

dinner last night. best chimichangas we've had in the area.good service and nice wait staff. we'll go back anytime we want mexican food

polarisman14 07-13-2016 06:38 AM

The only places I can think of that are comparable in a 20-30 mile radius are in Concord. Food and service have been excellent every time I've gone regardless of what time of day. Prices in my opinion are 10% high but what are ya gonna do.

jbolty 07-14-2017 08:01 AM

Went to Belmont location last night. First visit.

Was pretty good and about equal to an average non special Mexican place in southern California. Waiter hardly spoke English so we had the extra authenticity.

Salsa was not spicy at all but tasted fresh. I would go back for sure.

I have many years of experience living in San Diego and know my Mexican. Generally there are three levels. Taco shop walk up, fast casual sit down and upscale. There are a million of the first two and a few of the upscale. But, no matter how fancy it is or what expensive ingredients your use there is only so much you can do to dress up an enchilada, rice and beans.

phoenix 07-14-2017 12:33 PM

I live in Phoenix most of the year so usually wait until i get back for great Mexican food but i do go here once per summer and think it is the best in the best in the lakes region.

Before moving up here 3 years ago I lived in Nashua for many years. There was a little shop at the Walnut street oval - Tacos Colima - that had excellent Mexican food. They had an enchilada plate the did not have the usual cheese/enchilada sauce coating, but had a chipotle cream sauce instead that was my favorite dish there. So the are other enchilada recipes.

We have been to the location at Weirs Beach four-five times this year and have always had great food and service.

We have been to the Belmont and Weirs locations and find both very good. Great service and good food. The last time in Weirs they apparently did not expect the number of people coming in. Shortly after arriving I saw the manager on the phone. Not long after more help arrived. They went out of their way also to accommodate large parties. I find the servers have a good sense of humor also.

I am a retired workaholic and continuing aquaholic.

No, that's Spanish.

This is Greek:

ο εστιατόριο El Jimador είναι πολύ καλό και το φαγητό είναι νόστιμο για μεξικάνικο φαγητό στο Νιου Χαμσάιρ

winniwannabe 07-16-2017 07:58 AM

:laugh: The last 2 posts are hysterical! I'll be up there next week
and (although) I don't like Mexican food my sons and their girlfriends
will probably check out the Weirs and stop in at that one. In the meantime
I need to brush up on my foreign language skills I guess. El Jimador est
tres bien.

Patofnaud 07-18-2017 09:56 PM

I like the food at E J, its close to home and comfort food. Although go in the upper door and eat in the lounge, the downstairs atmosphere is like a Chucky Cheeses.

ericnh 07-19-2017 04:42 AM

Tacos Colima moved around the corner and is now El Colima

Have not been here in ages but plan going tonight Unless things of changed and there is a better recommendation to go elsewhere what’s the current state of Mexican food in the Lakes region

We love it there. I would only suggest that you go to the Belmont location rather than the one at the Weirs; as we have found the food and service to be better in Belmont. I love their fajitas!

Casamigos

I have not been to El Jimador so I can't compare but Casamigos at 276 Main St Tilton is really good!

https://www.facebook.com/pg/Casamigo...=page_internal

I have also heard that Cielito's in Bristol is very good.

Been several times and it is very good! Seems as though the owners and staff appreciate your business and the food and drink is excellent.

Two things: First, El Jimador and Casamigos are related. The guy running the latter used to work at Jimador, and might even be a member of the family that runs it.

Cielitos in Bristol is more than very good; way more. If this restaurant were in Laconia, I'd go there 80% of the time for Mexican. Jimador still has some menu items I'd return for, but Cielitos is on another level. :liplick::liplick::liplick: Check out their reviews on Yelp.

Curious.....how does El Centenario in Wolfeboro compare? I've heard good things but have not yet checked them out.

jbolty 08-14-2018 08:57 PM

Ended up going to Bristol. Was very good and pretty authentic. Would go back any time. Not any selection of hot sauce though

I really like Centenario. Great food! It's a small place so you may have to wait for a seat. Food takes time to prepare, and is also worth the wait. Table side guac is fresh made at your table, get it!

Good food and margaritas

My wife and I frequently go here for margaritas (we love the one with the bourbon barrel aged tequila) and have had lunch/dinner here several times. I wouldn't rave about the food but it is pretty good. Service has always been good too with very friendly servers and bartenders. We always eat upstairs so maybe service is different in the main restaurant on the first floor. We always look forward to going back.

Lunch last Saturday

Last Saturday, 4 of us stopped for lunch at the Belmont El Jimador.

4 good meals at a reasonable price. Got my fix for huevos con chorize til the next time (scrambled eggs mixed with chopped chorizo sausage).

I remember pepper told me it was tough for any restaurant to survive the winter in the weirs.

Perhaps they might want to take the banner on the end of the building down. It says open all year. We went by today :rolleye1:

Not doubting you, Fiberhen. We were taking last night about taking a ride from Alton Bay to the Weirs to go there. Have wait til next year.

Open again

Just in time for Cinco de Mayo.

Looks like a new and more limited menu. Heard there are new owners from people at the Belmont location. Food was just plain not good for the first time ever last time we went, completely different experience than normally the case.
We weren't the only ones, it was pretty much a common theme.

Hope the new smaller menu helps. Will miss the combo plates though.....
